Joey Porter wants to play for the Chargers, Cardinals or 49ers

Joey Porter is unhappy about his situation and has asked to be traded. He specifically listed the Chargers, Cardinals or 49ers. The link can be found right here

Im not crazy about the idea but i think it is worth considering.

If the Chargers decide to part ways with Merriman, which I doubt considering he is under contract, then Porter and Philips would make a dangers duo, with English coming off the bench.

What do you guys think?

For what it’s worth Pro Fooball Focus didn’t like Porter this season. Granted, they still liked him more than Merriman and English.

He's definitely a leader.

But then again, he’d be expensive. Additionally, how long until his production topples off the cliff? He’s been incredibly productive for his age with Miami, but that’s got to stop sometime. It’s an intriguing possibility but presumably a risky one. The Cards might outbid us considering the impending loss of Karlos Dansby anyway.

Yup, I'm the nut who believes Mark Loretta is a possible future Hall of Famer.

PFF’s numbers suggest his production already has toppled off the cliff.

but if they get rid of merriman

and bring in porter for a year or two, then english can learn from him and eventually take over.

The problem with this

is that Porter is more expensive than Merriman would be over the next year or two, and anything you’d get for Merriman (2nd round pick?) you would have to give to the Dolphins to get Porter anyways.

Basically, if the Chargers were to do it they’d be trading in a young guy who has had health issues for an old guy who is starting to be less effective and have health issues….and it would cost you more.

not nessacarily

Porter could be cut, or givin away at a low price. Think about michael turner, AJ couldnt get anything decent for him because everyone knew he wasnt staying with the chargers, same as porter with the phins. And if they get rid of merriman anyway, then porter would help, and at this point he is much more productive then merriman.
I my opinion at least.

No way would it cost a 2nd round pick to get an aging disgruntled Joey Porter

My guess is that the most it will cost is a conditional 4th round pick.

Joey Porter

Joey is good, But Larry English is good also. I have seen him play in person. so if Merriman gose Bring in Joey Poter. He wants to play for the Chargers. and he would be good for us.

He's 32

How often do 32 year old linebackers make a big impact as a free agent acquisition?

Did he really make an impact?

He was more of a role player on various teams.

I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

He was a started in Miami when healthy. I think he made one Pro Bowl as a reserve, maybe in ’03?

I seriously doubt that he'll end up here

He’ll probably go to the Niners to act as a mentor to Manny Lawson and Patrick Willis.

Why would we bring in another diva?

I think Joey Porter is a loudmouth lockeroom litigator who would be all about the spotlight and smack talk… We’ve got enough of that with Merriman and Phillips. Not only is he too old to sign, he’s the exact kind of player AJ Smith doesn’t want. Not a chance in hell we sign that guy….Could be a perfect fit for the Raiders though hahaha.

Dolphin fan here

I have way too much respect for you guys to pick up Porter. He’s a cancer and he’s not nearly as good as he’s given credit for. He’s a detriment to any type of progression your team may be growing, and he’s several years past his prime. Let someone else like Oakland go after him, there are better options for you.

It's 2010 - do the smart thing. Draft Myron Rolle.
