Trading Cromartie, getting steals in the draft
If you haven't already you tubed Dexter Mccluster and Toby gerhart do so asap. Rumors are going around about trading Cromartie for someone like Tashard choice or another Rb from a team that has a 3 headed monster but if you follow what A.J Smith does he will go after young talent, and try to get them cheap. He usually will surprise you with his first round pick and this year I think its going to be Jamal Williams replacement. There is a lot of talent in the draft for DT but they will most likely be gone in the first round but if the chargers get a 2nd round pick for Cromartie they could use one of the 2nd round picks or even both to get McCluster and Gerhart if not a 2nd and a 3rd and use the other 2nd round pick on depth at CB after trading Cromartie. Sources say they may go after 2 RB's in this years draft. If you like Smash and Dash style backfield you will love McCluster and Gerhart. Most mock drafts have us taking Javid best which is a good back but has had 3 major injuries in his college career and I don't see A.J going after someone that risky. C.J Spiller would never fall to us so this is my early opinion. Please comment and let me know what you guys think!

I'll start
My concerns about Best and McCluster is that they are simply Sproles 2.0. I think the Chargers need more durability and more of a “between the tackles” runner. (But then again, if they let Sproles 1.0 walk then they’ll definitely need a Sproles 2.0.)
Dwyer and Mathews are more along the "between the tackles: lines, but they’re unproven as pass catchers, which is a very important component for any RB on the Chargers.
I don’t know what it is about Gerhart… An odd case of reverse racism?? Why do I have trouble seeing him as the go-to back the Chargers need?
The best case scenario would be to get a couple extra picks and package them to move up to take Spiller.
I am also concerned at the diminished depth a trade of Cro would create. But I definitely understand the thinking behind trading him. I don’t think his actual value lives up to his perceived value.

I hear you Andy!
Reverse Racism(good stuff) McCluster is more like Chris Johnson style, great vision! Sproles is a one of a kind back (short) fast and tries to run between tackles but if he doesnt avoid the defender gets pounded. As much as I love him we all know he will never get more than 10 carries a game and can’t run between the tackles, plus mainly if we franchise him it will be close to 8 mil which we know A.J will never do. Sproles wants to test the market and will get the 5 mil a year he wants from some team which I don’t see us paying him. Gerhart is a beast, reminds me of a Mike Alstott with more speed or like a Michael Turner/Brandon Jacobs kind of back. The kind that will make teams stack the box so there will be less pressure on rivers plus on the goal line forget about it, he is a fighter and McCluster can catch out of the backfield. Forget about Best, A.J would not take the risk. Ryan Mathews is another I like, similar to shonne green I’m just talking guys we may be able to get in the 3rd round. Like shonne green and glen coffee last year. Many think we will get Anthony Dixon because he is a really good pass catcher. I would just love to see a 3 back system like Dallas or Patriots or Giants of 2008. The more and more I read up on it the more I see us getting 2 top 10 Rb’s in this years draft!
I would be very happy with Mathews or a Gerhart/McCluster tandem
Jonathan Dwyer I would be okay with but it seems like he’s dashing up the draft board. Still don’t like Best due to his injury history and I would settle for Joique Bell or LGB in a worst-case scenario.
I’d even roll the bones on Stafon Johnson as a 7th/UDFA. Then there are a lot of other guys— Ben Tate (Auburn), LaMarcus Coker (Hampton), Keith Toston (OSU) and Shawnbrey McNeal (Southern Methodist) who are some intriguing late-round or undrafted names.
Yup, I'm the nut who believes Mark Loretta is a possible future Hall of Famer.

RBs on the Block?
there seems to me that there are teams out in the league that wouldn’t mind the services of CrimeTime (hows this for a stat line: 7kids, 6 different mothers, in 5 different states?!) that all have attractive pieces at RB position:
Dallas: Tashard Choice, possibly Marion Barber considering his mileage
New Orleans: Mike Bell, Pierre Thomas. while Reggie is getting PAID, Bell and Thomas are both RFA with looking for big opportunities
Carolina: De’Angelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart. the prospect of either getting the start has me drooling. J-stew is prob the long term solution for the Panthers but we have the trade assets to make an interesting offer
NY Jets: Thomas Jones. High mileage but productive back in his old age, unlike our own GOAT.
Buffalo: Marshawn Lynch. Word is that he has quickly fallen outta favor in Buffalo after all his off-field transgressions. tenacious runner with lots to prove.
Pittsburgh: Willie Parker. 3 straight 1000 yrd seasons, a former Super bowl MVP, fast willie is jonesing to do it again
Baltimore: Le’ron McClain. He has shown that he’s much more capable than just blocking.
Arizona: Tim Hightower. versatile back wishing to be coveted as premier ball handler.
The point is, as much as i like gerhart, matthews, mccluster, etc. i like backs that are hungry for work and have experience in pro systems especially in the post season. the time is now lets make a move!
Lynch is the most intriguing to me
Williams is probably the best of the “available” bunch, but will be expensive to get in terms of trade and potentially a new contract. Lynch might be cheap (or cheaper) and has also proven himself with a couple 1000 yard seasons and also caught 47 balls two years ago.
The other are either too old (Jones, Parker, Barber), too unproven (Hightower, McClain), or not going anywhere (Stewart, Choice, P Thomas).
I do agree with your point that there might be some diamonds that are cheap through trade or as FA, and we might not need to spend a real high draft pick on one.

i like his work
i will agree that despite all his luggage, he’s got true upside. I have a bunch of friends that i watch sunday football at a bar with and they are all Buffalo Bills and a few Cleveland Browns fans (they exist?!?) Marshawn is one of the most hard working backs in the league b/c he puts in his 110 on nearly every play. Gotta love his style b/c he earns every yard he gains through true grit and determination. Sproles would be a nice complement b/c he does all the things that Freddy Jackson does (all purpose yrdge) but with quicker feet. either way, whoever we get has got to be able to move that rock to keep the offense balanced and opposing defenses honest
I agree with what your saying about the backs but the Stat line about the kids shouldnt of been brought up or matter, because if im a team owner i dont care how many kids he has because i dont pay his child support as long as he can come on and help my team thats all that should matter. i am actually surprised Crime is up for trade because he wasnt terrible this season he just has not been able to repeat that 07 season, he set the bar too high even for himself that year. But again your take on Backs is right on and either of the carolina back would be perfect but going for lynch would be Great!
I don't think Cromartie has much trade value...
Realistically, the best we could get for the guy is a 3rd round pick. I wouldn’t mind it, especially since Cro is a sorry excuse for a corner but that would only force us to find another CB in a draft where we already have HUGE holes to fill at NT and RB, I think that’s why they’re pushing so hard for a RB. I doubt we could get Choice for Cro, Dallas has decent talent at CB, they really need an ILB and Safety. I think they’d be better off trading Cro to Tennessee for LenDale White and a draft pick… White doesn’t want to be there, we could use a big back, there’s a lot of speed at RB in this years draft, and The Titans need some help on the other side of finnegan. It’s not really AJ’s style to draft a RB high, i’ll be surprised if he goes after one before the 3rd round, especially if he signs a free agent RB. If he did go after a RB early, it’d be Jon Dwyer, Ryan Matthews or Montario Hardesty(I have us taking Hardesty in the 3rd in my mock draft).
Only RB in the draft I'm interested in is CJ

Spiller is obviously a game changer,
But Ryan Matthews is growing on me. Those two are the only ones in which I would want a first rounder burned on.
DAMN YOU JUJU!!! You make about as little sense as John Clownzano!!!
Just have Cro run a 40 yard dash for Al Davis.
We’ll easily get a 1st rounder probably more.
Good point.
We should tell Al Davis that Cromartie is a runningback. Guaranteed first rounder for us!
DAMN YOU JUJU!!! You make about as little sense as John Clownzano!!!
Michael Bush for Cromartie? Bush has proven he is a capable starter even rushing well for the Raiders, but because of Davis he gets no love. Davis is too love with Fargas and McFadden.
Interesting.
I think I like it.

Not to mention,
He is obsessed with speed and measurables. Cromartie has those two things. Hell, we could get a lot more than only Michael Bush (Who I really like as a runningback by the way).
This off-season officially sucks for FIVE reasons and counting...
If Cro gets traded who starts at CB
The problem with the thinking in this thread is that the whole thought is not complete. Are you really comfortable with Cason starting at CB opposite Jammer. With a PS guy who got hurt last year as the only backup. Well I am not.
Then there is the question of what you can really get for Cro, a 2ndround pick then I say yes, anything less well I am not so sure.
There are 3 CB optins that could be had in the top half of the 2nd round that would IMO fix this problem. Kyle Wilson, Kareeem Jackson, or Devin McCourty. Then I would stay with the draft for our RB spot but the names I like the most are not first round names but next tier value picks, I like Hardesty and Blount. Especially if Sproles stays.
My point exactly!
Everybody is yelling dump Cro but then what! who is good enough to go that side if we had started Cason in that position and we could see how he can handle it i would be alot more confident that Cro should Go. Unless there was some signs of this in practice that we did not get to see.
Is it April yet??
i dunno bout you guys, but we can speculate which is all good but i cant wait for the DRAFT!
