So I read somewhere that you guys might be shopping Cromartie

I read that you all might be shopping Cro for a running back.  What do you all think about Chester Taylor.  He's got great hands, a good running back and a great pass blocker for Rivers.  With Sproles in free agency this year and LT showing his wear and tear do you think this would be a good or bad trade?

Thanks for any input.  Oh and how about another trade, Rivers for Tarvaris Jackson!  Ok just kidding about that one (no really please take TJ)

I think Taylor will be #2 or 3 on AJ's list

Despite having significantly less mileage than LT, Taylor is also 30 years old. The Chargers are looking to build, not betting the farm on a “win-now” season, and would probably be more likely to spring for Tashard Choice, Jerious Norwood, or seek a top back through the draft.

For the right price

Taylor could be a decent option to help relieve some of the strain on a rookie back while also mentoring him. I think there are some here that might believe that Michael Bennett could do the same though. I like the idea of Taylor being used in pass protection on obvious passing downs, I think that is where his value to the Chargers lies.

If cro gets traded

does that mean he gets a new contract? Cause that means whoever takes him needs to be ready to pay up.

Also, if he gets traded it’s hard to get what he’s worth. A premier cornerback still in rookie contract. And if we keep him it’ll be contract year type stuff. He’ll be working hard. And maybe in a playoff game he’ll hit hard

Exactly

The only way Minnesota is going to trade Chester Taylor is if they slap the Franchise Tag on him, which may increase his salary.

I have a hard time imagining AJ letting Cro go without an early draft pick

Not necessarily a first, but early.

top 5 free agent RBs

anyone have a list of top 5 free agent RBs? URFA and RFA…
Which team out of these RBs’ teams need a starting CB?

If only there were a fanshot on this site that linked to all the RFAs this year

Ronnie Brown? Woo Hoo!

I wish Miami decided to trade away the key to their offense for a CB who is afraid to tackle. Positive thinking!

How’s Brown’s health?

Brown's Health

He’ll be ready for training camp. Freak injury. We need a receiver more though. Better trade idea is swap 1st and V. Jackson.

Almost every one of those guys

Has either missed a season due to injury in the last couple of years or was in a coaches doghouse for a full season.

Too Risky

Ronnie brown is coming off a huge injury, he may never be the same player or take 2 yrs or so to be what he once was… Why trade away V.JAX who’s getting better and better every year and a huge part of our offense for a player thats gonna want huge money and coming off a broken right foot (the foot he uses to make his cuts) I say we give Cro and a 3rd or 4th rounder for Jonathan Stewart who is still in his rookie contract and an all around back and durable! And we are not getting rid of a 31 yr old L.T for a 30 year old Chester Taylor or 33 yr old Thomas Jones(as much as I like Jones)

How about a trade with Green Bay

Antonio Cromartie and SD’s 5th Rd pick for HB Ryan Grant and GB’s 3rd Round pick. Fair trade or not?

Make it a second instead of a third.

Grant is probably just shades away from being a true franchise back. Also, we’d probably look— again— to find someone who can be developed and give us more than 3 or 4 productive years.

Grant was pulled off the NYG scrap heap and became a nearly franchise back for the Packers

And that is why I am a little reluctant to trade a valuable asset (like a starting CB, even if he is a little afraid of tackling) for one. I feel like there are scrubs out there on some teams that could come in and contribute enough for our needs.

What about Pierre Thomas!

With enough carries Pierre has so much upside. I don’t see the saints paying him and Reggie bush all that money, especially with all the free agents they have to resign. Reggie is due like 8.5 mil if he plays 2010 with saints. No one will want him for that plus saints couldn’t just cut him, he means to much to the fans and that city. I like Pierre more than Grant myself hes also a free agent I’m surprised more people are not bringing his name up in the mix. His injury last year was a freak accident with the fence at his house or something, in 08 he started playing in the later part of the season and blew up and in 09 when he got carries he killed it, breaks tackles, great vision, can run block, young, similar offense to ours and is a great pass catcher out of the back field. What would you give up for him? plus I heard GB would only want to give up Brandon Jackson or one of the LB’s to us plus a pick, I’d rather get someone late in the draft to address our RB situation, than get Brandon Jackson involved in the Cromartie trade.

by boltfreak on Feb 18, 2010 9:54 AM PST reply actions

I dont see it happening.

Thomas is the Saints #1 back, and proved why in the Superbowl. He wont’ be traded to us anytime soon.
