Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Predictions for the members of 2011 chargers WR's corps

With Vincent Jackson just having a big game against the Niners, I had to ask myself if that was enough convince the chargers to keep him, and with Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naane also staring at free agency, it makes the WR position extremely intriguing in terms of speculation of who stays and goes:

We know:

Free agents to be:

Vincent Jackson

Malcom Floyd

Legedu Naanee

Probably will be here:

Patrick Crayton

Seyi Ajirotutu

Kelley Washington

Draft possibilities:

Jonathan Baldwin

Julio Jones

Austin Pettis (not in the first round, but scheme fit)

Leonard Hankerson (see above)

Trade possibility:

Larry Fitzgerald

Final Projection

Malcom Floyd: Injuries are a concern, but they will also keep the cost down

Patrick Crayton

Seyi Ajirotutu

Legedu Naanee or first/second round receiver

Kelley Washington (two skills keep him in roster, good slot receiver and special teams player)

Final thoughts: I would keep Vincent Jackson I just don't see AJ Smith keeping him too much bad blood, Floyd his injuries cost him millions and keep him under the radar and in the chargers roster. Naanee is 50-50 for me, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jonathan Baldwin as the chargers first rounder, and that would cost Naanee a spot on this roster. I would love Fitzgerald on the chargers, but the chargers history says, there will other teams willing to offer more in a trade.

No one on our roster can currently replace VJ. I think he is a step above Floyd and 2 over Nanee. I agree its unlikely AJ will sign him. We’ll look to the draft and make do with what we have: Floyd, Crayton, Nanee, Washington, Tutu, and whomever else we draft or sign will be a solid WR corps

A few more guys to consider come draft time

Justin Blackmon: He coincides well in terms of value, and their possible spot in the draft.
Michael Floyd: Top 15 talent but injury prone, seeing Malcom and Legedu struggle to play, an injury prone player is a no-no for me.
Jernel Jernigan: Small, fast and productive, similar skill set to Crayton who sure played well in this offense. Chargers history seems to be geared more towards bigger receivers.
Vincent Brown: 6’0 200 lbs and productive, and recent good history with SDSU guys, don’t shocked if he or Demarco Sampson is a charger.

Take it to the bank

Floyd>Jackson=Aj………
Crayton>Nanee=So much more effective and helpful to Phil
Washington and Seyi will still be around.

Hey Man!! Where's CBD??!!

CBD still has a year left on his contract.

I think Washington’s age works against him next year.

Its a shame but for some reason, I think M80 is gonna create a bidding war type situation if there’s no lockout. I think it is gonna be hard for the Chargers to keep Floyd.

CBD has been confirmed by various sources he will be cut

Among the sources Acee and Trotter, so he may be on the roster, but he has played his final down as a charger

I don't think CBD will be cut

isn’t his rookie contract up at the end of this year anyway?

by glamisdave on Dec 20, 2010 10:03 PM PST up reply actions

He signed a five year deal in 2007

That makes 2011 his last year, but according to Jim Trotter the chargers have used up their patience with Buster.

The idea being

That with only 1 year left on his deal, there is too much risk in holding a roster spot for him. When he had additional years left it was worth it to see if he could show you something. But, with one year left and likely outcome being more injuries the gamble no longer makes sense. Even if he is cheap.

Although, the new CBA could include more roster spots for teams. I still don’t think that would help.
