Did Legedu Naanee Get into PB Bar Fight?

Vague-internet reporting....GO!

From 10news.com:

PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. -- A 20-year-old man was hospitalized following a fist fight in a Pacific Beach parking lot early Monday that may have involved San Diego Charger Legedu Naanee, police said.

The fight at Cass and Hornblend streets was reported around 2:15 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

It was not immediately clear whether the man's injuries were life-threatening.

Three black males, possibly including Naanee, were seen running from the scene, Delimitros said, adding that only one was believed to be involved in the actual fight.

Well, that sounds vague, but according to my "sources" in PB this sounds an awful lot like another incident at Bar West (where the Antonio Cromartie thing happened last season). It certainly doesn't sound like they have enough to charge Legedu with anything, but it's another case of the SD Police being involved in a late-season incident for the Chargers.

I think in future contracts there needs to be a provision that states that Charger players are not allowed in Pacific Beach in the hours following a football game.

I sent an e-mail over to Naanee's people to see if they have any response to the investigation.

Does getting paid million of dollars doom them to a life of boredom? Maybe, but I think a lot of these guys would forego being football players if it meant they weren’t allowed to have fun on their day off.

Charles Barkley said it best, after getting into a few bar-fights in Philadelphia, when he said “When guys see me out at a bar or club, they want to see if they’re tough enough to beat me up. I’m not going to back down from that.”

I’m suggesting if they want to mitigate a little risk, they should have their fun before midnight.

Or alternately, in season? Pushing for the playoffs? Short week before a Thursday game? YES, YES HE SHOULD BE BORED AND IN BED. These guys work 6am-6pm during the week. Staying up that late and boozing it up is not going to be good for your body clock, among other things. It’s a free country he can do what he wants. It’s certainly not how I would be spending my time if I had that gift of athleticism during the prime of that brief althleticism.

Who is to say that he'd be asleep if he was in bed?

I can’t tell you how many athletes, Chargers players and otherwise, have told me “After a game you have to go out, because otherwise you end up pacing around at home not able to sleep. The adrenaline takes a long time to wear off.”

nothing?

We’re talking about odds here people. The odds of something happening in a PB bar are much higher than the odds of something going down in your home. The odds of something happenning at 8pm are less than something happenning at 10pm are less than something happening at midnight are less than something happenning at 2am. If I was suggesting that pro atheletes take zero chances of stuff going down, they should never leave their home except to go to work (and maybe the grocery store). Unfortunately we all live in reality. I’m talking about risk/reward here. Midnight is arbitrary and unscientific. I’m just saying the odds are better of avoiding trouble if you’re home by midnight (as opposed to 3am) – but you can still have some fun in that time.

I don't think they have to be doomed to a life of boredom.

But they, like REGULAR people should avoid breaking the law. There must be hundreds, no THOUSANDS, of people that manage to go out, have fun and not (A) Get in fights (B) Drive Drunk or © Break some other law.

If they aren’t responsible enough to stay out of trouble then maybe they should give themselves a curfew. Or if the place they are going to is problematic, then maybe they should go for a more upscale place.

And to clarify,

I’m definitely not accusing Legadu of breaking any laws or doing anything wrong here. This sounds to me like he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and people are just throwing his name in there for shock value, but in general these dudes should be more careful.

but teachers aren’t celebrities. Celebrities are targeted more than your typical teacher.

I’m not sure exactly where I stand on the subject, but NFLers do make a lot of money in an industry where public perception is second only to performance in staying in the NFL. They are very well known by a lot of people who tend to be fanatical and de-personalizing a celebrity is pretty common and a handy excuse to stir up trouble.

While I don’t think locking these guys between games is the answer, I do wish they would show some restraint and some awareness of their situation. Especially a marginal guy like Legedu. If you are replacable and you screw up, you will be replaced.

by Stephen (shaynes41) on Dec 13, 2010 11:38 AM PST up reply actions   1 recs

The hopes and dreams of an entire team, and entire city

are not riding upon the behaviors of a simple teacher. An NFL player has a lot of responsibility to himself, his team, his city and the league. Right or wrong, fair or unfair, that just the deal.

And yes I think the situation happens to the teacher too. Go out and have some "fun" on the weekend, cross a line, and the teacher answers for it just like anybody else. One thing is for sure, if you are locked up in central booking? You are gonna be late of work the next day if you are a football player or a teacher. Wanna keep your job? Keep clear of those situations.

Ya know if it's true...

He violated one of my fundamental rules of fist fighting…

#4 Never hit to the head or face.

Blows to the head swell up fast, and can look really ugly in minutes. Cuts to the head and face bleed… they bleed a lot.

When the Cops show up, usually the guy in the best shape goes into the back seat. The guy that "gets done ugly", gets to go home or gets in the ambulance. That’s why one of my rules to fist fighting is never his to the head or face. Hit a guy in the body, you can do almost as much damage, and really there’s very little evidence for a Cop to see when they get on scene.

If Legedue wants to thug it up on a Sunday night… He really should take some lessons.

Generally the can track you down

… like say by a credit card receipt a photo line up. Running is not a bad idea, and that’s rule #2. Run First (before the fist fight begins).

The thinking there is that the bigger stronger adversaries’ won’t be able to catch you in a foot race. So chances are IF you end up fighting?? You’ll have a horse power / weight advantage.

Plus taking the show on the road generally dilutes any numbers advantage the other guy might have – allows you to fight 1 on 1.

And then there are witnesses to think about. Running illustrates that you were not the aggressor. And you have better odds that there are few witnesses around when / if that guy catches you just in time for his beat down.

No shame in running from and avoiding a fight, heroes die on the beach!
