Linkenbach is really awful
He got thrown around like a doll.

The defense will.
The offense sure won’t.

Hard to stay mad at A.J.
When he just keeps finding talent like this over and over.
Running game?
Where we're going, we don't need a running game.

Thank you

The really amazing thing
is he really does it with just one arm.

Thank you oh so very much
I have no clue why they doubled Cesaire and left Garay 1 on 1.

To be fair
The double WAS effective

Double was on Nwagbuo ...
if I’m not mistaken…. Applewhite also did a great job on this play; if Manning had (somehow) gotten out of the pocket to his left, Applewhite would have had him.
Phillips was also a monster on the play (though not as much as Garay!) and got credit for the sack…. But it really should/could have been Garay’s….. — I would have given each half a sack.
AWESOME!
it was
OG. My mistake.

This
is my favorite play this season. Taking down Manning with a blunt object, brilliant! Garay is killing it, he should be going to the Pro Bowl.

Great bull rush
And he did it from that left DE position. I think Castillo was already nicked by that time. The Chargers have a really flexible defensive front, and man they were stronger than the Colts last night!
Garay signed through 2011?
Anyone know Garay’s contract status? We’ll have to pay him to keep him, and I’m not holding my breath that AJ will do so.
Yes
2010: $630,000
2011: $640,000
2012: Free Agent

restructure that thing now
he’s worth it…although they probably want to give big Cam Thomas a shot, I’d rather have two DT’s locked up because we can always put both guys in the game like last night on this sack when both Nwagbuo and Garay were in there…
Having both NT’s in the game is great for the Nickel packages because they have 4 down linemen with the OLB’s as DE’s and your two NT’s inside…really collapses the pocket on passing downs as you can see above
We’ll have to pay him to keep him, and I’m not holding my breath that AJ will do so.
Why? AJ takes care of his guys. Ask Rivers, Gates, Jammer, Castillo, LT in 2004, McNeill after signing his tender, etc.
Those were all contracts to young guys. Garay is 30+ and Thomas looks to be coming along nicely. If Garay wants a nice 2-3 year deal he’ll get it, but if he tries to get a top-dollar 4-5 year deal it’ll probably be gotten elsewhere.
Just a guess though.

This
His age is what concerns me. We really can’t speculate much with the current uncertainty regarding the 2011 season. If football is played in 2011, we can use the franchise tag on Garay if he proves to be a monster again. It’d be nice to trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if possible, especially if Cam develops as hoped.
I don't think the 30 year curse applies to D-Linemen really
especially not guys who spent some time on practice squads like Garay has…before getting signed by the Chargers he had played a total of 14 career NFL games dating back to 2003. That is not a lot of wear on the guy.
Besides, interior D-Linemen don’t seem to have the age limit that some other positions have, in fact I would argue that many players enter their primes from the ages of 28-30. I would have no problem signing the guy to a 4-5 year deal while Cam develops and having two monsters inside to keep them fresh against those running teams in the playoffs that give us such fits like the Jets did last season.
I'd be comfortable with a 3 year deal
Or a 4-5 year deal depending with more favorable cost/terms for the team. Garay is certainly earning a Castillo-esque deal this year…
Most 4-5 year deals
the last two years are essentially optional anyway.

JWall had some of his best years from 28-32
And it was only a torn arm muscle that cost him last year, probably less a sign of wear than a freak injury. JWall’s “wear” issues were apparent in his knees and there has been nothing to suggest that Garay has balloons in his knees like JWall did.
AJ should be looking at extending this deal in the offseason and giving Garay the payday he has definitely earned this year. I would be cool with 2.5 – 3M per season for 3 years, that would also give Cam and Vaughn some more time to develop with a bunch of veteran guys around.
by riversformvp on Nov 30, 2010 11:27 AM PST up reply actions
Vaughn is a DE
Just making that clear since you seemed to imply that Cam and Garay and him played the same position.
BTW, it seems like Martin is starting to take time from Travis Johnson. Am I crazy or is that happening?
The National League West title was all but a lock,
Then they lost 10 in a row, ‘twas like a punch in the jock!
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
yes and no.
They want to develop Martin. Johnson is injured, and has been half injured, so Martin gets those chances. Johnson has been very good. Martin has been decent, and improving.

can anyone get that video to pause
at the moment of the last slow-mo shot with linkenbach’s face all shoved up into manning’s grill? i need a shot of that that as my phone background for the rest of the year.
Doesn't it look like he had his thumb up inside the helmet?
The way Linkenbach’s head is tweeked to the side, it seemed like Garay was pushing his head. Now THAT is getting a guy by the short hairs!

looks like he picked him up by his neck or helmet
maybe Garay’s thumb is on his trachea
Has Norv been fired yet?
