Does Steve Gregory return as a starter?
While Paul Oliver might be a good coverage Safety, the chargers sure seems to miss Steve Gregory instinctive always around the ball play, and his text book tackling skills, so clearly my vote is Gregory returns as the starter. I think the chargers front office was hoping Oliver would earn the job, especially considering the history of injuries Shawne Merriman just had after his run in with PED's, but I didn't see enough for him to take it away from Gregory. What your take guys?

I would be amazed
If Gregory wasnt the starter. Hes clearly the better option at safety and has never been a problem in the past. i think the chargers approach this the same way the did with cooper when he was suspended. As long as Gregory keeps his head down from here on out he should be fine.
These pretzels are making me thirsty!
Gregory
Will start until a stand out player emerges. Oliver is not a standout. Also Casons play has lowered since Gregory was suspended. That’s 2 improvenments with the addition of one player.

He was the leading tackler
when we was suspended. Hopefully it wasn’t because of the special sauce he was taking. He is a good blitzer, and run stopper, both of which Oliver isn’t. Oliver is pretty good in coverage but so is Gregory. Ideally I think Gregory is a nickel/dime back and a good special teams player. That is, if they bring in a stud safety. He could be a Kassim Osgood type on punt coverage.
This is would like to see. but with this franchise...
AJ Smith frowns on these sort of things and Gregory has played his last game as a starter, and season as a charger.

wait for it
does Terrence Kiel ring a bell? promising safety, got arrested for transporting codine. VJ, Merriman, Edwards, etc…. it’s a short list of players that were on AJ’s short side, and they “ALL” have gone the way of the doh-doh.
all i’m saying AJ has some draft picks that “he” likes, and gregory has been a fringe player. at best he gets the “one year tender” offer that all non-playing, injured, off-field issue players get from AJ. i would like to think otherwise, and positive gregory gets an extension or a long term deal of some sort, but there is a consistant pattern that says other wise.
to quote the man …" you are a charger, one year at a time"….
let’s just wait and see.
