I know he's not our guy and no one wishes him further injury, but it serves to evaluate the front office decision to let him go when you see something like this.

Broke down. I guess it really WAS the Koolaid.

The more things change, the more they stay exactly the same… I’d bet AJ had Buddy Nix pick Merriman up as a favor. Love him or hate him just don’t get on AJ’s bad side… Buffalo is too cold for Canadians…

Huh

You lead with lyrics from a Rush song and then take a shot at Canadians? You know Buffalo is SOUTH of Canada, right?

by riversformvp on Nov 10, 2010 1:09 PM PST up reply actions

It's south of MOST of Canada

It is technically slightly more northern than some parts of Canada.

Its western NY

But whatever you call it. Its still the brown eye of NFL cities. If you excluded Cleveland I guess

IMO

I guess Oakland

would be the black eye?

Every morning

I take the Cleveland BROWNS to the superBOWL. Definitely brown-eye.

All the way from Brisbane, Queensland.

people in buffaleezy have a perverse pride in their city though.

and the Bills too. May be a cold miserable place, but the people there have pride.

Even though it would have made the FO look bad, I was hoping he would tear it up again.

Buffalo is basically the Siberia of the NFL

Don’t F with AJ or you get sent to Siberia.

Reminds me of the John Jefferson days

When Green Bay was synonymous with “Purgatory.”

But, but...

JJ got traded to Green Bay. AJ didn’t trade Merriman. Buffalo may or may not be Siberia, but AJ had no way of knowing Buffalo would claim him.

I'm not buying it

Sounds too much like a conspiracy theory to me. It might make some sense if you subscribe to the theory that AJ is a vindictive bastard who puts his ego before the team (and lots of people on this blog do). However, if it’s true that AJ and Nix plotted Merriman’s exile to Siberia, what do Nix and Buffalo get out of it? They give the guy a roster spot, take on the rest of this year’s salary (and simultaneously let the Chargers off the hook), and take a chance on looking silly or looking like AJ’s stooge? No, sorry, it makes no sense unless Buffalo really wanted him. Even if Nix and AJ are old buds, there’s too much downside and cost to Buffalo for this just to be about screwing Merriman over.

Besides, what if Buffalo won a game or two and wasn’t first on the waiver list? The Chargers put Merriman on the injured list weeks ago. There was no guarantee back then that Buffalo would get first crack. Merriman could have wound up in Carolina or San Francisco if things broke a little differently. The Chargers waived Merriman because they didn’t think he could play anymore, and they didn’t really care whether another team picked him up. It’s not more complicated than that.

Didn't nix "retire" because he couldn't stand AJ.

Or maybe he liked AJ but couldn’t stand his ego?

I get the joke.

But to be serious, Nix left the Chargers because he wanted to be a GM and that wasn’t going to happen here.

I don't think

anyone ACTUALLY believed there was a conspiracy.

Or is there? Nix could have possibly chosen to lose those games to pick up Merriman. . .

I hope he's okay and he gets better soon

He plays with passion and he deserves a chance to lead a defense in the NFL
