Weddle did, however, explain how the banned substance was unknowingly ingested. According to Weddle, Gregory attended the Aaron's 499 NASCAR race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway the weekend of April 25 with some friends. During the trip, it is believed that Gregory consumed a drink that was tainted. That occurred shortly before he was randomly drug-tested by the NFL in early May.
A drug on the list of banned performance-enhancing drugs was discovered, which eventually led to Gregory's suspension. In addition to anabolic steroids, banned performance enhancers include anti-estrogenic agents, diuretics and stimulants including cold medication containing pseudoephedrine, prescription drugs like Adderall, Ritalin and over-the-counter herbs like bitter orange, among others.
Though Gregory prefers not to disclose the exact substance, Weddle didn't want his friend's name and reputation to be associated with steroids any longer.
"It's unfortunate that people put that (steroid stigma) on him when they don't really know what's going on," Weddle said. "Hopefully, people will understand that it wasn't anything close to him taking steroids. It was an unlucky situation where he got his drink drugged. Stuff like that happens, and when it does, you're (out of luck)."

some one slipped him a mickey?
sounds fishy. There is no way a NY boy like Gregory was at nascar. That is just ridiculous.

Oh yeah! Who cares about the substance now?
We wanna know if Gregory woke up missing his drawers and his shoes on the wrong feet. The plot thickens.

This story is complete garbage
But its a nice try. I believe everything Weddle said, I just doubt the Gregory would take a red cup from someone random Nascar dude and start souping
IMO
Didn't you ever watch Taladega Nights?
I wiiill beat ju Ricky Bobby (he just didn’t say where). Maybe gregory was getting some of that…

Im guessing
something more along the line of Jemarcus he maybe “unknowingly” had some drank.
I didn't mean
he was addicted just that he might have drank some type of cough syrup/cold med combo that someone was serving.
btw
not that it was drank but some cough/cold mixed w alcohol or other “fun stuff”.
Of course it's true
Weddle can’t lie, he’s Mormon!
Second hand defense makes me suspicious..
Honestly, if it was something along these lines, Gregory should just come out with a story of, " This is what happened… I shouldn’t of drank this.. I had no idea it was in there… I apologize to the fans and the club…"
Weddle coming out to defend him, while honorable, makes me wonder. Especially since Gregory is not going to comment on what the substance was.
A quick explanation and apology will do more to repair his image with the fans then anything else.

Absolutely!!
Especially if it was specifically juice. Revealing the substance does not hurt him, holding it back gives everyone including Eric Weddle artistic license to speculate.
He’s already received the punishment, let hear about the crime.

I guess
if the standard was ‘beyond a reasonable doubt,’ I’d let him go, but if it were ‘preponderance of evidence’ I would hold him liable.

The fans should have a looser standard than the League.
If a player has been in the NFL for a long time and blows a test, you the fan can chalk it up to “shit happens.” The League can’t; they have to suspend the guy. They can (and do) acknowledge that “shit happens,” but it doesn’t factor into their equation. The only defense for the League is “I didn’t really have the stuff in my body.” “I don’t know how it got there,” or, better still, a good excuse (and there are some) is for the fans and coaches.

agreed
I dont know how anyone that grew up next to the ocean could be dumb enough to watch cars drive in a circle
IMO
Speaking of dumb people...
You’d have to be pretty stupid to think NASCAR is just cars driving in a circle.

There are straight aways too!
The dumb ones are the people sitting near the fence on those corners. That would freek me the F OUT all those cars a few feet away going what? 150? No way does that barrier save your butt when said cars come unglued in the turn.

I believe Weddle
He’s a pretty straight up guy. There would be no reason to stick his neck out for someone else. Plus, maybe he was at Talladega. He seems like the sort.
