If Marty Shottenheimer is so great why hasn't anyone hired him?

Every time i hear about how bad Norv is I think back to San Diego in Indy playoff game. Sure Norv seems to expect to players to motivate themselves and sometimes the players seem to want to play FOR somebody but come playoff time you don't have to motivate players: you want them to slow down and concentrate and trust you. Norv playcalling is trusted. Anyhoo, that's my comment. Any questions I'll answer eventually

San Deigo fans love to live in the past....

People are quick to say they’d rather have Marty cause he went 14-2. Personally I would rather have a couple post-season wins and finish with a slightly worse regular season record. Regular season is meaningless if you don’t get it done in the playoffs (see New England). When all is said an done, Norval has many more wins that Marty in games that matter.

The whole motivating thing an utter joke. I don’t recall Tony Dungy being a huge rah-rah guy. Sure Cowher was, but people in Pitt. wanted his head for YEARS before he finally won. Gruden? He can thank Dungy for that Super Bowl win.

I don't think it's about living in the past.

To me it’s more about having something to compare to. If you look back a little further, this team was a pathetic Joke for 10 years before Marty arrived. the only winning that was here prior to that, was the Superbowl year, the “Air” Corryell days, and Lance Allworth. Under Marty, a lot of young players developed into a real football team, that delivered 2 playoff appearances in his last 3 years here as HC. Also, “no slow starts”, Marty’s team was usually up by an average of 17 points, in the first quarter, even during the 4-12, through 9-7 seasons. His only knock, he played conservative in the second half of games and the playoffs. basically he’d jump on a lead then sit on it by running out the clock and playing defense.

In my opinion Marty was due. i could tell he was about to change his ways, i saw it happen when he allowed Cam Cameron to “open up the playbook” for PR in 06’. He was usually a run the football guy, and QB’ throwing was an after thought. At the very least he should have been allowed to play out the last year on his contract. But, as we all know he never got that chance,(regardless of the circumstances, or the “reported so called facts”) he should have been allowed to play out the last year of his contract. Why? in Marty’s entire career he has never had a team link he did in 06’. Ever. it has either been all defense, and okay run game and no QB, or good QB no okay run game and okay defense. Never a great young QB (2), great young RB, and great D-fence all at once

he was due….

peace out

To answer your question

I’m pretty sure Marty has retired, and is quite happy to do his Siruis radio show and to hang out with his son Brian.

you don't think he would take

a head coaching job if someone offered him one?

And sorry about the big type, I have no idea why it’s like that

No.

I think he’s happy doing what he’s doing. If he took any job, it would be with Carolina, so he could stay close to home.
