Don't forget about the BFTB Podcast tonight at 7. Plenty to talk about with Merriman's departure, McNeill's return, Bolts & Dolts from the Raiders game, the coaching staff and the upcoming Rams.

Put any questions you want answered in the comments below or feel free to call in (the call-in number can be found if you click the link below) and chat with me, as I'll be reminiscing about Shawne Merriman one last time.

I wanna know ...

If there are conservative options the Chargers can take on special teams that can reduce our chances of making mistakes, even if it means we might not make the big play?

Because on that last punt, last week the gunner out ran the rest of the coverage and wiffed. I thought to myself….. Why in the heck didn’t that guy dial it back a notch one he got to the second level. Had he slowed down he would have had a better chance to make the tackle AND he would have help the rest of the coverage close in. In that instance the Chargers were too agressive. Then I got to thinking maybe we could be less agressive and provide better protection on punts too.

By the way

I answered this at the very, very end of the podcast.

whats the latest with jackson?

Ive been hearing that if hes not traded by the 19th then he will not be back until week 10 so that he can accrue another season.

Do the chargers have to take him back at that point or can they revoke the tender and make it so he cant accrue another season?

Ive also heard there are talks to bring jackson back – but isnt the relationship too damaged at this point?

If they revoke Jackson's tender,

he could sign with any team he wants and the Chargers would get nothing in return. Gotta ride it out and get what we can for him.

And no, the Chargers will not be bringing Jackson back. Ever.

Phillips was sent into zone because...

he was actually struggling a little towards the second half in pass rush. he only had 3 pressures all game, but a pass defensed and a few plays where he was pushed out of the run. I think that’s why the pass rush in general slowed down some

Rivers struggled throwing to everyone but Gates and Floyd

only 3 passes out of 12 completed to Davis and Crayton.
Floyd was targeted 13 times, caught 8, drew 3 penalties, and had 2 passes missed

True

I think it’s important to keep in mind. Floyd and Gates were very aggressive going at the ball. The other receivers seem to wait for the ball, like they are just playing catch.

Yeah, Rivers wasn't the problem.

Buster had a terrible game and not having Naanee out there for most of the game didn’t help.

1st Blocked punt-

Applewhites fault.
2nd block- Hester’s fault.

hey John

I know the shows over now but…do you think goodman will take over some of those kickoff and punt return duties from sproles? im kind of hoping he will…

by NorthCountyBolt on Oct 13, 2010 8:02 PM PDT reply actions

If anything...

I think he’ll get a few returns in when the game is out of reach in the 4th quarter. Just to give him real time practice. Its too hard to say because Sproles is making so much money. He’s getting paid $1 Mil per touch. He’s done nothing more than a minimum salary 3rd stringer could do so far…

If anyone takes over PR, it will be Crayton. He’s one of the league’s best. Goodman might have an outside shot at KR, but it won’t be this week.

i get nervous everytime sproles gets the return( not because he might take it back) but because he might give it up with his fair catch and fumbling issues. id rather have him focusing on his run game. i liked what i saw from crayton also on offense crayton>buster

I prefer CBD

He’s got more speed. He just needs more playing time.

CBD = Crayton for me

CBD is just a lot younger.
