Senior Bowl: Chargers meet with Prospects
Every year Scott Wright of Draftcountdown.com visits the Senior Bowl. One of the things he does is keep track of which prospects are meeting with which teams. This could be some signals as to who they are drafting, it could be smoke screens, it could be our scouts just helping out a player who needed a couple of pointers. I think it's interesting to speculate on why they talked to these guys. So. here's who the Chargers have met with so far:
Monday- Andre Roberts, WR, The Citadel
- Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnati
- Shaun Lauvao, OG, Arizona State
- Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State
- Jeremy Williams, WR, Tulane
- Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami
- Eric Norwood, OLB, South Carolina
- Garrett Graham, TE, Wisconsin
- Jacoby Ford, WR, Clemson
- D'Anthony Smith, DT, Louisiana Tech
- Roddrick Mucklroy, OLB, Texas
- No one

WHERE THE HELL ARE THE RUNNING BACKS?
D’AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! All we can hope for is that AJ is scheming and trying to not draw attention to some of his favorites by “ignoring” them. Also, the preponderance of wide recievers we’re looking at might not bode well for VJ’s future in San Diego, especially in light of his recent legal issues.
Banned from Arrowhead Pride... and Music City Miracles certainly don't like me very much, either.

I’m pretty sure the Chargers had zero contact with English prior to drafting him.

You are correct
I believe the same is true for a lot of our former first round picks (Castillo, Cromartie, etc.). AJ hates when other people know who he’s picking.

Dude you stole the words right out of my Mouth! I can only pray that these are not guys they plan to draft.
For the most part, I agree. I could see one or two of those guys on this team, though.
You’ll go crazy following who the Chargers do and don’t interview, by the way.

Some of those guys are also kick returners in addition to their listed positions.

Wonko,
Most of those guys are projected 3rd-4th rounders, right?

For the most part
Cox, Norwood and Gilyard could go in the 1st-2nd.
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

AJ never shows his hand when it comes to the draft.
Were the chargers linked to any of their draft picks last year before the draft? Well except for the guy that got ran over by Martian…
I can't seem to find the list of who they met with last year
I know English was at the Senior Bowl, but my gut says that they kept their distance.
I did find this gem from Sam back in January 2009:
No way Stafford goes first overall.
and from the same time frame, this from Brian (DaBolts)
If AJ is interested in yet another project, Kevin Ellison out of USC might go in the late rounds. He missed most of the season with a knee injury, but still had seven PD’s and just under fifty tackles. This is the second year of knee injuries though, so that has to be a concern. He is an interesting prospect that might be worth a look if he falls deep into the second day.
and from me:
I’m liking the idea of Ellison very late in the draft if possible, but it doesn’t solve anything for 2009.

From Wonko:
I think Greene will go before the end of the 2nd round. I think the Chargers will looking at guys like Javon Ringer, Jeremiah Johnson, Andre Brown and Rashad Jennings in the 3rd. But if Greene is there, I’d want him. You combine a bruiser like him or Jennings or Brown with LT and/or Sproles and you get a damn good mix. You could also wait until later and a Gattrell Johnson, Ian Johnson, P.J. Hill or Tyrell Sutton might be available. Like Grey Suit says, lots of good RB talent out there.
