Perspective
The New Orleans Saints won their first Conference Championship ever yesterday. This fact led to me thinking about which teams have and have not made it to and/or won a Super Bowl in my lifetime. The first Super Bowl during my lifetime was played on January 26, 1986. The Chicago Bears defeated the New England Patriots in a blow out. The Bears have made it to only one more Super Bowl since then and have not won another. The Patriots have had five return trips to the big game and have notched three victories.
In all, I've seen 24 teams make it to the Super Bowl and I've seen 13 of them win it. The only teams without even an appearance are the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. The only teams I've seen hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy are the Patriots (x3), Giants (x3), Cowboys (x3), 49ers (x3), Broncos (x2), Steelers (x2), Redskins (x2), Bears, Packers, Colts, Ravens, Rams and Buccaneers. The only team I've seen reach the Super Bowl more than once without winning is the Buffalo Bills who made the trip four years in a row with nothing to show for it.
Now, I suspect this wasn't of interest to anyone but me so I'm doing you the favor of not posting it on the front page. However, I thought the idea of looking at things this way was at least worthy of a FanPost.

as I said in another post my parents attempted to raise me a Jets fan. So I’ve seen my favorite team make it to the Super Bowl and get blown out and my redhead stepchild of a team hasn’t even made an appearance in my lifetime. While ya’ll were watching Leaf, I was watching Leaf AND Testaverde. FML!

how dare you besmirch the SB win of the Rams
or perhaps you are escaping on a technicality because you didn’t actually see it..

The First SB I was alive for was in 1983
And that only adds one more team to the mix of teams who actually made it. The Dolphins who also go on the list with the Bills as a team that made it multiple times and failed in my lifetime. It does add two to the list of multiples as the Redskins and 49ers tack on 1 more each. It adds the defunct LA Raiders to the list of teams that hoisted it once.
I also like to point out interesting things like, the Giants are the only team that won Super Bowls in 1980s, 1990s and 2000s even though I think they don’t even crack the top 5 in winningest teams of those decades. The Patriots are the only team that made it to Super Bowls in all those decades. Now that we’re in a new decade, the only team that can try to get another 3 decade streak of Super Bowl wins is…. the Giants. No Super Bowl winning team in the 2000s also won a Super Bowl in the 1990s except the Giants. The Steelers could get a Super Bowl decades appearance streak going if they make it in 2010s since they have one in the 1990s and 2 in the 2000s.
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.
Another interesting tidbit
Did you know that the Chargers 26 points in Super Bowl XXIX is the 3rd highest score by any Super Bowl loser. Only the Panthers (XXXVIII) and Cowboys (XIII).
Which then made me notice that XXXVIII is the most characters used in a Super Bowl Roman Numeral. When will that be surpassed? I’m pretty sure it won’t be until LXXXVIII (88).
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.
I was about two months old for the '86 SB
So I can’t say I watched it. Though I may have, I guess. First super bowl I remember? 1995.

I've seen (or heard) them all.
So, now that the Saints have finally made it, my list is whittled down to just the Browns, Lions, Texans and Jaguars. Of course, the Lions and the Browns had those great teams just before there was a superbowl, back when your daddies (and I) were little boys so I’m hoping both Houston and Jacksonville get at least one shot in the not too distant future.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
I've been alive for 30 super bowls
seen 20…don’t remember all,but can’t forget the score of 49-26…it will live in infamy!
Now I feel old
Dolphins vs. Redskins (1973) is the first that I can remember, been around for all of them though.
