This is potentially bad news
Chud really helped Norv out this year, taking care of a lot of the offensive details that norv wouldn’t trust the OC with. Help norv be more of a big picture guy. Chud also served as the TE coach and Gates had his best year in a while

He seems pretty replaceable
There’s got to be someone else with playcalling experience that give Norv an assist like Chud did. I agree that he helped, but I think it was more the role combined with his experience and there are plenty of fish in the sea and the role will still be there.
I don’t think he helped Gates that much. I think the great year was just what Gates is capable when he is healthy and there are other options on offense that defenses have to account for.

Hate to sound like an ass
but everything you just wrote there is purely speculation. We have no idea what Chud really did this year (except for working with Gates, Manumaleuna and Kris Wilson) because the team never explicitly said.

I have to admit that I haven’t been inside any of the coaches meetings this year. All I have to go off is what I read on the internets. Stories on Chud from the UT:

Norv still called the plays this year and will continue to do so until they pry the laminated call sheet from his cold dead hands. I know that in prior years Norv seemed to have trouble with some of the big picture, game management type things, and this year he seemed much better at that sort of thing. It was also the year the Norv’s beloved offense became a juggernaut. Could be coincidental with Chud’s arrival, but I think some of the credit has to go to Norv’s delegation of some tasks to Chud. As Sir Wonko said above, it remains to be seen how replacable Chud is…

No need for the Sir
I’m still working on the Queen to get that title. The whole being American is really a sticking point with her. I’m pretty sure ol’ Chucky will be down once she kicks the bucket. But, we might as well lay off for now though.

“Chucky” won’t be king. And if he could, he’d have to take an alternate name, ’cause the name Charles is retired among Kings of England (sort of like their #16… both kings named Charles were beheaded, so anyone else who becomes K and is named Charles has to adopt a different name from a short menu given him at birth).

so what's shelmons role?
i know he’s the OC, and to some the OC only in name. chud will never be OC here and will never get to call plays here. so from what i can make of it, we could potetialy loose an actual OC playcaller, and be left with an OC that has never called plays, before Norv, and to my knoledge hasn’t called one under Norv.
The peanut gallery has spoken!!!
His main role
Is running game coordinator and he helps with the overall offensive gameplan.

yup
Shelmon is an OC in title only, Norv calls the plays and probably always will (and should).

i figured as much.
which breaks down to, letting the only other playcaller for the offense, interview for other jobs. if Chud gets a job somewhere else, then, a) Norv secures his position to being the only playcaller for this team. and b) how does this help the bolts get better, if Chud was apart of the success of the offense this year. and c) there was no running game, so shouldn’t the OC/running game coordinator get the axe, and replaced by Chud?
while c may seem to make sense to me, it would be a demotion for Chud from Asst head Coach to OC. and it would be a contradiction to plan a) making sure no body can challenge Norv for playcalling. ever.
The peanut gallery has spoken!!!
1) Chud could be OC and Asst Head Coach.
2) Chud wasn’t calling plays, Norv is the only offensive playcaller for the team.
3) Nobody is getting the axe, other than perform poorly in the last game of the year, the team was a winner and will be treated by the FO as such.

Chicago Tribune says
Chud isn’t getting the job. I heard it third hand from 619sports twitter though.
