BFTB Podcast, Take Two

I got a treat for you folks tonight.  Due to a family emergency, Zach is being replaced by my favorite BFTB podcast co-host thusfar....Sam!  Adjust your insults accordingly.

Also, if you guys have any pressing questions please put them in the comments section of this post and I'll make sure I do my best to answer it during the podcast.  Actually, who am I kidding?  It'll get answered.  We have an hour to fill here, people.

Here's the link to the show page, where you can listen live (9PM EST/6PM PST) and participate in a live chat during the show.  If you're one of the many that listened to last week's show after it was recorded, and prefer it that way, we'll be on iTunes shortly and you'll be able to let the application do the work of finding new episodes and downloading them for you.

If you would rather listen via the player on our home page here, and don't care to live chat with us and other listeners during the show, the call-in number is (347) 327-9679.

Remember, questions below.  To answer the first one that I know I'm going to get......yes, I still have a cold.  To answer the second, I'm a trooper....that's how.

I have a question

Did Sam make sure there was a family emergency for Zach so he could co-host again?
Also being serious i hope everything is ok with Zach.

Real question:
How do you think VJ will do against Revis?

X-Factor

Who do you think could be an X-factor on either team? Also, would you say the Jets defense is more underrated or more overrated?

Malcom Floyd. I totally linked to an article where they said he was.

The X factor is gotta be LT

LT is a former MVP and the guy that brought the Chargers to an elite team. No one is talking about him, they’re just assuming he’s gonna gain 30-50 yards.

I think he gets some touchdowns and some very crucial downs.

LT is underrated. Every run he has will be the hardest of his career. He’s healthy and he wants a super bowl and knows this’ll be his final year in San Diego.

huge impact.

Question

Do I have to sign up to the blogtalkradio site to get to be able to live chat? And I don’t see the link to the live chat, so I’ll just assume the show page you have linked will change when it hits 9 PM EST (I’m in NYC at the moment).

I believe the show page changes to include the live chat at 9PM EST.

I don’t think you have to sign up, because I did see some “guests” in there last time. However, none of them said anything during the chat so I’m not positive that you’ll actually be able to type something in for me or Sam to see.

Jets 72 Chargers 3

This guy is delusional!!
Of course so is the guy who predicted a Charger victory of 47-11. This is going to be a tough game. I believe San Diego will win, but it won’t be a blow-out probably somewhere around 27-20 Bolts

Anyone would think the Jets were 1-15 the way you talked about them lol

Listened to the first part, couldn’t listen to any more, good show though, just not easy listening to it without any rebuttal from the other side on issues that were quite contentious, stats tell a story but it’s not always accurate, and I know you can’t watch every Jets game, but if you had, I don’t think you would call the Jets offense terrible. You should work to get another perspective a little like the Jags do (I think) they have opposition fans on which gives a more balanced fair analyse.

Just saying though, would listen again (when your not trashing the Jets lol)

The Jets offense is below average. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but below average. It’s similar in quality to the Chargers defense.

Would mostly agree there, not saying it’s good or anything, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of the stats have been brought down by some truly terrible early season efforts like the Buffalo and New Orleans games. Just think it was a little harsh saying it was ‘terrible’ where in fact it has started to really improve (like you would expect with a rookie)

That's the same case with the Chargers defense

They had issues in the early games, but with any good team, they’ve made adjustments and personnel changes throughout the season to improve the defense and it’s consistently gotten better week after week.

Just like the Chargers (and their fans) can’t expect the Jets offense to stumble and implode on itself, neither should the Jets expect to be able to run all over the Chargers defense.

by creanium on Jan 13, 2010 10:33 PM PST up reply actions

Absolutely not, and that’s why I haven’t called your defence terrible once this week (at least I don’t think so anyway lol)

At least our opponents don’t think our defense is horrible. I think Sanchez is like a lot of rookie’s and when he isn’t on his game you guys aren’t a great offense, but we both know the battle of this game is our offense vs. your defense.

Your not wrong about that. Don’t sleep on Sanchez though, when he gets in a rhythm he can really do some damage, as long as Edwards actually catches the ball.

I won’t sleep on Sanchez if you don’t sleep on the fact that our patchwork defense can actually stop the league’s #1 rushing attack.

Everything is a possibility, said it from the start, you really can never tell in the NFL. So not sleeping on that at all.

My comment wasn't directed at you necessarily

Your comment just prompted me to comment on it.

A few Jets fans have said, on this site even, that the “Jets number-1 running offense is going to run all over the Chargers’ worst-ranked run defense.” So I was just addressing that particular line of thinking.

by creanium on Jan 13, 2010 11:00 PM PST up reply actions

I think it might also be something to do with some members saying that Rivers is going to walk all over our #1 ranked pass defence. Like above, we can analyse every stat in the book, on Sunday anything could happen, Rivers could throw for a hundred yards, and LT could pick up 150, Sanchez could throw for 250, Jones get around 30. There are scenarios that are more likely to play out than others, at the end of the day, nobody knows what’s happening lol

Oddly enough...

— and I know you were just tossing some things around to make a point that anything could happen (which I agree with), of those 4 things, I think the most likely is that Sanchez will pass for 250 yards…. Least likely (unless he were to get hurt): Rivers passing for 100…. Jones only rushing for 30 is basically just as unlikely (unless HE were to get hurt), although Green’s presence would make that marginally possible.

If LT rushes for 150, I’ll … I’ll … well, as a Charger fan I’ll celebrate big-time; but I think what I was starting to say is that I’ll eat my hat (or something like that)…. He hasn’t rushed for 100 all year, and I can’t imagine him breaking off a couple of long runs when he hasn’t done it all year…. You never know, though — which, again, I know was your point. ;)

If LT can get 75 on the ground,

that’d be excellent for him in this game — and for us.
