Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Hardwick to Have Surgery, Out 8 Weeks

Kevin Acee has the report.

It is not known whether the Chargers will place Hardwick on injured reserve. They could decide to save a roster spot in case he can come back to help for a possible postseason run.

This is scary. They won't put him on the IR if they think he has any chance of returning this season. I don't think they will after Jamal already going down for the season and Merriman going down for all of last season.

Scott Mruczkowski has been filling in for Hardwick and will continue to do so, though it is not known whether they will try to find depth behind him. Their backup center currently is Dennis Norman, who was signed last week.

I actually think the "Skis" have been doing a damn good job backing up. I assume Vasquez will be out for the Miami game but then be able to come back the following week.

What do you think? I personally think Hardwick is the "keystone" to our offense and everything turns on him being healthy. Then again, last week we put up unheard of passing numbers against the Ravens defense to the point where Ravens fans were stunned. Looking at the big picture, since our division sucks we probably make the playoffs and get a healthy Hardwick for the playoffs. That's all we can ask for.

I don't see the team going away from Scott Mruczkowski

It’s not like he’s a rookie. He’s a vet at this point and he’s been doing a good job. The Chargers must have known this was an option and would’ve made a different move (as opposed to acquiring Norman) if they were going to try to find someone better than Mruczkowski. Norman is basically the Mruczkowski replacement. A backup lineman who can play all 3 interior positions and they’ll kick him to the curb next year when Green is ready.

Does anyone else think

That someone will see the headline and think ‘tec is trying to be clever and is implying that Hardwick’s surgery is testicle related? Maybe someone should fix the headline.

I meant the formatting. There was nothing wrong with the content aside from the bad news.

Mruzckowski impressed in his playing time.

There were problems to be sure, but that’s to be expected from a guy with limited playing experience and who has never started a game at center before.

Given time, I’d expect him to improve and play even better.

What I think sucks

is that Nick was hurt on a dead play where the Raiders wouldn’t stop at the whistle.

Typical.

And Rivers got fined for yelling at them for it.

Nick was hurt on a play that was whistled dead due to delay of game.

Rivers was fined for taunting 2 possessions later on a play that was whistled dead due to a false start.

Both occurred during the 3rd quarter.

His point is still valid. Rivers wasn’t necessary mad because of that one play where he got flagged. He was probably frustrated because there were numerous times during the game where the Raiders weren’t stopping for the whistle.

We need the space

We already lost Gatrell due to the juggling needed to bring in extra help in the lines. If we keep Nick active, who else do we say good bye to?

Hardwick is a really good player. When he’s in there he leads that group. But our safest chance right now is to IR Hardwick. That keeps Nick, and prevents us from loosing anyone else.

by Trendsearcher on Sep 23, 2009 3:20 PM PDT reply actions

They’re not going to IR him. He’s out 8 weeks. They already have 2 backups that can play C/G (Green, Norman) and one that can play G/T (Dombrowski).

If they think they need another backup Tackle, they’ll probably cut Spillman. However, I don’t see that happening.

Mistake if they don't

It’s a wheel. The guy will not be in any kind of playing shape come week 11. And Hardwick has bad wheels, so if they rush him back after surgery likely he gets hurt – again.

Physically he will not contribute much in the remaining 6 regular season games.

by Trendsearcher on Sep 23, 2009 3:51 PM PDT up reply actions

The injury cut off is at week 4

No Chargers are allowed to get injured so late that they can’t be here for the home stretch and playoff run.

I think we maybe need some depth to fill in in case the “Skis” go down and I think we could run a little better with Hardwick back in.

Hardwick injured for an extended period of time.....

Happens every year. Is this guy injury prone or what?

Get better, Nick, we need you.

given time these guys can get better

after all that is why they’re on the squad. but this has been a long term problem. when has Nick completed a season? it’s been a while. and yet we continue to draft from the “outside”, in.

i just hope they’re worth the roster spot, and letting kynan go, pays off.

peace out

Attack of the Polish Punishers

Dombrowski and Mruzkowski have actually been solid as backups, I’m quite impressed. And I agree that it’s not wise to rush Hardwick back after injury, especially to his legs. I think they’re not going to take any chances with him, and let the backups shoulder the load; after all, Mooch healthy is as good or better than an injured Hardwick.

Unrelated new nickname— we call him Hardballs from now on.
