The NFL has fined San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers $7,500 for taunting in Monday night's victory at Oakland.

Rivers was involved in an incident with Raiders defensive lineman Gerard Warren which resulted in a 15-yard penalty as well as the fine.

What a load of bull.

According to both Rivers AND Warren, the words exchanged were “Stop at the whistle!”

Since when do penalties (apart from the occasional flagrant cheap shot) incur fines?

It’s mostly because he threw the football on the ground next to Warren’s head. They’re trying to make an example that purposely throwing the ball at another player will not be tolerated.

That's what I thought it was

Phil, say what you want, but don’t whip the ball at dudes’ heads.

"Dont call that Bull!"

Uh oh, I think I am soon to be in debt to the NFL! This fine is ridiculous, I would feel bad for the guy had he not signed a massive new contract. However, conceptually I am still against this fine!

It was a precedence fine

Refs assumed Rivers was just randomly trash-talking a guy because he’s famous for doing so, but it was pretty clear he was trying to defend his linemen. Al Davis and Tom Cable were the ones that should have been fined, not Rivers. It was as if Kimo von Oelhoffen cloned himself three times and they all suited up for the Raiders. Every D-Lineman was going low, rolling on the legs of Chargers OLs. Warren has always been that type of chump player, but I was surprised at the others taking part.

On this topic.. how is Hardwick and Vasquez?

They won't be playing on Sunday.

Our o-line and d-line is really worrying me!

ridiculous

I think Rivers is a decent guy and this image of talking trash all the time is unfortunate. Because the fines are miniscule compared to their salary the entire point of fining for something like this is for a public show. whatever….on to sunday

The more trash he talks

the more I love this guy! When Rivers “came out” a few years back I wasn’t sold on him. But now that I’m completely sold on him I can’t get enough of his trash talking. Maybe because it’s just in good fun.
