NFL Power Rankings From Around the Web
Every Thursday during the season we will compile and summarize different power rankings from the various experts around the web. The list of rankings should expand a bit as the season gets going (some sites have not posted preseason power rankings) if there are any sites you want to suggest that we add to the list please post their link in the comment section.
The full power rankings, as well as the "averaged" rankings are after the break.

cool
This is a good idea…I go around to all the sites to check out the rankings anyways…nice to see them all side-by-side for comparison.

Your ESPN rankings are out of date.
Chargers flipped with the Colts, moving ahead of them to #5.
Seattle moved up to #15.
The Bears and Packers moved up to #s 11 and 12, respectively.

Considering no games have been played yet, it’s really funny that ESPN has had more than 1 power rankings and the rankings have actually changed without any major injuries.

They have a "Training Camp Edition" that comes out before the pre-season.
And this new version is the “Week 1” edition, that’s based on what happened during TC and the pre-season.

Bleh I hate it when sites don't put dates on their articles
The preseason rankings were kind of hard to figure out which is the most current.

Fair enough
Everything on ESPN.com has confused me for the past few years.

I do not get it
The Chargers are in the one solid team in the softest of divisions. That should be 6 wins right there. Let’s just say they go .500 outside the division, that’s a 12 – 5 record.
I do not know what these various outlets are thinking, but it seems more East Coast bias in the sports media. Pretty much the top five from every outlet is an east coast team (25 of 30).

You could argue that the Chargers had an easier schedule in 2008 than they have in 2009, and they went 8-8. Would you rather play the AFC East or the AFC North? The NFC South or the NFC East? Honestly, I think people look back at last year and expect the Chargers to do the same thing.

They must be thinking that way
But we are not starting off with nearly as many injuries, and almost no recoveries from post season surgery. The Chargers are much healthier in 2009 than they were in 2008.

Yeah, but the fans and media will freak out if the team starts 1-3. Which is a shame because 3 out of the first 4 opponents are very tough. There could be another meltdown that turns into a playoff run

Well,
I would have usually picked NFC East over NFC South, but the NFC South was actually pretty darn good last year.
As for the AFC divisions, that’s also pretty close. While the North has the Steelers and the Ravens, they also have the Browns and the Bengals. So, it’s kind of a push for me.
Having said all of that, the other AFC West teams look worse than they did a year ago.

on averaging
Our best ranking is 5th with USA Today. Other rankings are 6, 9, 9, 9 and 9, yet our “average” is 5.
I would add Football Outsiders. They ranked us #1. I like that.

I thought the same thing, but if you look at the teams around the Chargers it makes more sense. Teams like the Dolphins are 3 on some rankings and down in the late teens on others.

Chargers have failed...
to live up to expectations for the past 4 years.
