We Won The AFC West Four Times

And we don't have tickets sold out.

Redskins, Texans, Falcons, Ravens, Panthers unlikely black out, broncos, Packers, Colts, Giants, Jets annticipate all games sold out, Patriots, Saints, Eagles, Steelers have all 8 home games sold out.

Chargers blackouts are likely as said by DSC on 101.5

Why is San Diego not selling out?

Is it because of the most oldest stadium? Chargers have the best roster out of any other past charger teams in my opinion.

Colts can't beat chargers in Playoffs, and broncos have a QB problem, and Redskins? where are they gonna go there offense relies on Portis, and Texans? Especially this season has Merriman back, Larry English. Our defense is gonna see a new defensive system under Ron Rivera.

All I'm wondering is why aren't we doing our part? I'm doing it maybe not everyone can do it?

It will sell out

People just buy tickets late

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on our souls.

Hopefully

We have had some problems like this before

by BFTB_zach on Sep 1, 2009 8:05 PM PDT reply actions

Because tickets

are freaking expensive. For a pair of tickets in a decent section, you are paying more than people can afford right now (or ever). NFL Sunday Ticket is so much cheaper than going to a game and you get to watch all of the games over and over agin from the comfort of your own butt’s imprint in your recliner. No $9 beers, no $8 hot dogs, no $20 parking. Personally, I love watching the game with some friends and being able to slow-mo our own replay to see if the receiver was in bounds or not. I think other people have caught onto this too and are not willing to shell out hundreds for one game when they gan pay the same (or less) for all NFL games.

That, and I live far away

If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong

Chargers have had problems

for years. Many other teams have, too. Often in the last few years the local station that would be broadcasting the game if not blacked out, or another corporation have purchased enough tickets in time to get the game on TV. We’ll see if it happens in the regular season, but I don’t see why any corporate entity would buy up tickets for a pre-season tilt. I live in Redskins territory, and their will NEVER be a blackout here, and it cost $45 to park, with some of the most expensive tickets in The League. San Diego has a loyal fanbase, but it is smaller than some other cities. Let’s face it, San Diego is as close to Paradise as you can get on the mainland US. There is so much to do, you don’t NEED NFL football like you do in Buffalo, Denver, or Green Bay. Plus, with the economy, do you want to spend $250 for 2 people to go to a game that you can watch on a plasma TV with a DVR to pause and your sofa rather than a folding plastic seat? Diesel85 was right on with his take on the cost.

I’d go to probably 3 or 4 REGULAR SEASON games if I lived in the area. I go to Chargers games when they play in DC, B’more, Philly (no SD colors), or Pitt.

League rules on blackouts need to be revisited.

Dude you gotta wear your colors ANY place the Chargers visit,

what do you do when we score? Do you quietly admire the game?If we win do you save the joy for your home? Dude grow a pair!! I’ve been to Oakland home games twice and flew my colors, and they didn’t do one thing to me.I would not be cautious of wearing my colors to a Philly game,we hardly ever play each other. That statement is sounding bad on your part dude, can you say PRIDE.Not to insult you bro but why would any other teams fans do anything to you?Unless you start problems and can’t back them up.Don’t worry, fly your colors proud!!!

Their fans really don’t care, as long as you’re not wearing Giants or Cowboys gear.

Cost

and we still have those fairweather fans that will only go once the team is winning.

by GABOLT on Sep 1, 2009 10:02 PM PDT reply actions

will they?

This team has won their division four years in a row (is that right?). They’ve played tough playoff football since the first round loss to the Jets. I’m not sure what it will take for SD fans, but I find it frustrating.

by Leukadian on Sep 2, 2009 7:29 AM PDT up reply actions

What's the problem?

So they couldn’t sell out two preseason games. Who cares? I’m happy that the fans are smart enough not to pay full price for preseason tickets.

Are you concerned because the 8 home games aren’t sold out before Week 1 of the regular season? I doubt that has happened for most teams around the NFL. In San Diego, with some of their fairweather fans, a large number of tickets are sold the week of the game when the fans know they’re going to root for a good team that has a change of winning. What if they bought tickets to a week 12 game and by week 3 the season has gone to hell? It’s entirely possible.

by John Gennaro on Sep 2, 2009 8:16 AM PDT up reply actions

the couldn't sell out opening day last year

that’s pretty bad. For multiple games every year, the TV station has to buy unsold tickets so their advertising doesn’t get hosed. Dude, it’s one of the best teams in the entire NFL for four years running. There shouldn’t be tickets available until the next decade. And opening day still isn’t sold out this year.

“What if they bought tickets to a week 12 game and by week 3 the season has gone to hell?” <— this is exactly what’s wrong the SD fanbase. Look, I know it’s overpriced, and I’ve posted my feelings about preseason ticket prices, but the fact is there are many cities that do a much better job of supporting their (worse) NFL team. San Diego is the 6th largest city in the nation (or thereabouts)? If they lose this team, I won’t like it, but I can’t say they don’t deserve it.

by Leukadian on Sep 2, 2009 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree with you.

I posted quite a bit on here and was verbally attacked and my posts were taken off this page. So look out, the charger fans don’t take too kindly to a well thought out opinion.

Originally, it was expressed pleasantly.

Some Charger fans came in and started trash talking, though, and things got out of hand. Not my fault richard. If people on here were more like you and accepted ideas in the first place, none of that would have gotten as ugly as it did.

THANK YOU

Man, I’m getting tired of having to get rid of fights that are happening in the comments section. Thanks for both of you guys being civil about this.

Part of the issue, that you’re not thinking of, is that Qualcomm is old and terrible. A new stadium for a winning franchise (which is what winning franchises typically get, right Denver?) would fill the seats for years.

But I won’t argue you that certain areas have more die-hard fans of the team than others. That’s the nature of San Diego. It’s a mixing pot of people from all over the country that say “I’ll root for the Chargers unless they’re playing my real favorite team.” Which, in this issue, boils down to them saying “I’ll go see the Chargers if they’re good and it’s a good game.”

I see your point, but......

at the same time, many Broncos fans would argue that they would still rather have the old Mile High Stadium. I don’t think the Broncos have ever had problems filling seats, despite playing in a stadium where the stands felt like they were falling apart.

The Broncos supposedly have “sold out” every game since 1970. The dirty secret is that Broncos tickets are on sale every week, and some go unsold. Upper level tickets for the Kansas City game are available on StubHub for $37. The Broncos’ ticket office sells those tickets for $45.

I have to admit

I haven’t been to a Charger game in 10 years. Last game I went to, I paid $50 to a Raider monday night game, and got put in section with a bunch of Raider fans…. And the Chargers lost. Not a real good experience.

Since then, ticket prices have sky rocketed, I’ve got two little kids, Sundays are real busy, and I can usually watch the game at home in HD. I’m not sure I want to pay $200-300 to bring my family to a game and sit around a bunch of drunk and usually belligerant fans. Football is a better viewing experience on TV anyways. Injury updates, replays, DVR, cheap food, much shorter bathroom lines.

I think the NFL needs to rethink the whole blackout policy. It seems like they are really driving away the casual fan and pissing off the diehard fans. The Casual Fan is what makes the NFL its money, they can’t afford to not have them thinking about football. Plus, when was the last time a MLB or NBA broadcast was blacked out? Never. If they don’t need it, why does the NFL?

by Stephen (shaynes41) on Sep 2, 2009 8:37 AM PDT reply actions

This was discussed in-depth when I was on the 619sports podcast. I agree with you in principal, but I also don’t think the NFL is in a position where they necessarily need to care. They have plenty of fans that won’t give up the sport, and the NFL makes money from those people watching TV as well.

The Sports world (and business world in general)

is littered with the remains of leagues (and businesses) who took their customers for granted and lost their place, see baseball for a good example.

I keep thinking about going to a game

But, I really don’t want to do it even the game will end up being sold out. The reason being that I don’t pay to get a lesser experience (food at home is cheaper, discussions are livelier, my TV rocks and at this point is higher quality than the one at the Q, parking is free at home) and miss out on all the other exciting NFL of the day.

by Wonko on Sep 2, 2009 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

I used to feel the same way

After having season tickets for a couple of years, I can tell you there is no substitute for the live atmosphere. Now watching on TV is frustrating and substandard because I can’t see the whole field. If I could get you to three games in one season, I think I could get you to change your mind. Unless you’re hoarse after the game, I’d posit discussions are livelier at the stadium. 60,000 pumped fans chanting “LT” (or “Marty” depending on the year) is worth being a part of if you dig the team.

by Leukadian on Sep 2, 2009 2:17 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Going to the games is certainly a great experience, but I still prefer watching from home.

Your comment doesn't entice me one bit

The live experience is overrated. Chants are overrated. Getting hoarse is overrated. “Watching” the whole field (as if that were possible) is very overrated.

Now if you’re talking baseball, that’s a different story.

I fear you are correct

When a Bronco fan enjoys going to the games more than die-hard Charger fans do, the writing is on the wall. You can watch games in LA on your TV just as easy as games in San Diego. I just hope they don’t end up north of Irvine — I don’t think I’d drive further than that to see a game.
