San Francisco 49ers @ San Diego Chargers game to be blacked out locally
from the Chargers:
Per NFL policy, the game between the San Diego Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, Sept. 4 will not be shown live in the Chargers’ television market.
The league’s long-standing policy requires all games not sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff to be blacked out in the local market. This includes all signals within a 75-mile radius of the stadium and those areas whose television signal reaches within that 75-mile zone. The league’s policy affects all telecasts, both cable and satellite.
Approximately 7,000 general tickets remain available at Qualcomm Stadium Gate C, www.Chargers.com, TicketMaster outlets or by calling TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000. The game kicks off at 7:05 p.m.
The tape-delayed telecast can be seen at the following times: KFMB-TV, Channel 8 in San Diego – 10:30 pm Friday and 7:00 pm Saturday; KCBS-TV, Channel 2 in Los Angeles – 1:30 am Saturday; KMIR-TV, Channel 6 in Palm Springs – 10:30 pm Friday, and XEWT, Channel 12 (Televisa) in Tijuana – 11:10 pm Friday.

One good thing about not lively locally...
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on our souls.

is that you can be drunk in the middle of the day without embarrassing your family?

What a bunch of crock
In spring training, baseball has 1,000-2,000 show up to their games. In the NBA, 10,000-12,000 will show up for the exhibition games. The NFL really wants 60,000 people to show up for Charlie Whitehurst and Gary Banks? Really? What an ancient rule about blackouts that needs to be changed but won’t.

Agreed
That blackout rule shouldn’t apply to preseason games, and preseason games shouldn’t cost as much as regular season games.

75 miles from the stadium. If you can see the stadium, drive 76 miles north or east and then start looking for a bar. don’t drive drunk home though.

I think the Season Pass is exempt
since you are paying for the games. In the ads they claim every game.
On Dish I got the first quarter of the Seattle game (NFL Network) before Dish figured out the blackout. The broadcast had the Seattle Homer commentary team, and the editing was bad – no sidelines, no crowd scenes, no music, no cheerleaders. I’ve seen better high school football broadcasts.
I like our local broadcasts, even if they have to be delayed I just avoid the newspaper until I can fire up that TiVo.

As far as I know
preseason games are not included as part of the NFL Season Ticket package. Even if they were, you’d still be blacked out if you were within 75 miles of the stadium. That’s why you still have to watch local NFL games on the local channels.

Official BFTB slingbox?
I say we get John a slingbox and we all access it.
Although hopefully this won’t be a problem during the regular season.

It might be
You guys wanna pay for it?

Remember
even if you’re more that 75 miles from the stadium, you’ll still probably get blacked out.

I think Philadelphia is well outside of the range

I meant in Southern California.
One of the posts earlier suggested driving 76 miles away from the stadium and finding a sports bar, when in reality you have to go well over 100 miles away to find an area that isn’t blacked out.

In some cases over 200 miles.
Santa Barbara is the nearest coastal county that isn’t blacked out. I think Palm Springs may be outside the blackout zone as well.

my parents are in the same position with the Padres. They can see the fans behind home plate at Petco from their condo, but their building has Dish Network built in so they can’t watch anything. SD is messed up with sports on TV.

I guess
I’ll be searching Justin.TV for an illegal broadcast again.
Or, more likely, I’ll find a college football game I like and watch the delayed local broadcast of the game later that night.

but who will be in the open thread, mocking me for backing Gartrell Johnson?

7000 Remain
Is a good sign. That’s a lot to sell for a preseason game, but not a lot extra to sell for a regular season game. There is no way any of our regular games get blocked out this year.
Weeks 15 and 17
Possibly pointless games against the Bengals and Redskins. I could see those getting blacked out.
