Practice
So I went with my son to the Wednesday practice too. A few words to the wise; they don't allow in video cameras or cameras with detachable lenses. I got a few washed out shots with a cool pics camera that I won't subject you all to. Eat before you go; the 1$ hotdogs are a good deal, but they only have one open outlet; my son hadn't had dinner so it took me 45 minutes.
Judging from Johnny Dubs and SHaynes pictures we must have been in spitting distance. It wasn't a high energy practice, Sproles was the big exception. That is one speedy little guy, and he is all hopped to play every down. Vincent Jackson made some great catches and looked excellent. Rivers was off his game and threw a series of picks; but also made some nice plays including a lumbering bootleg for the TD.
Some players surprised me with how sharp they were; Cletis Gordon made a nice PD, Pick and had two terrific kickoff returns. On one he reversed field and looked like he could have gone the distance. Clinton Hart looked good in converage, no, seriously. He had a pick and was all over the place. Cromartie had one good Kick return, but bobbled one and then got nailed.
I didn't get a good sense of LT running, he seemed to be catching well out of the backfield. He made one sparkling catch in the endzone in front of Jyles Tucker. If you were wondering; Jyles has not been burnishing his coverage skills in the off season. The offensive and defensive lines were not really firing off either; didn't really see enough to say anything. Hester was enthusiastic; Tolbert didn't get too many shots. With the beard and long hair, Whitehurst makes it look like Jesus is our third string QB. One guy that impressed me was Truman Spencer; he's a backup punter but was booming 55 yard punts that were dying around the one. I forgot to count hangtime. He's never going to replace Scifres, but I could see him catching on somewhere.
