New England Patriots release backup QB Kevin O'Connell
Former SDSU QB Kevin O'Connell was cut today, but has too much talent to not end up somewhere else.
Not exactly Chargers news, but I figured some guys on here would be interested.

The word is he is going to wind up in the AFC West
On either the Broncos or the Chiefs. So it does concern us actually. Cassel is out two-four weeks and he knows Pioli’s system. Also, Mcdaniels was the one who drafted Kevin and Kyle Orton isn’t exactly John Elway or even Jay Cutler for that matter.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on our souls.

Pioli (the GM) has a system?

Patriots backup
I guess it’s Andrew Walter? That’s humorous.

They've got Brian Hoyer too
Just doing a quick search, he’s been referred to as a Tom Brady look a like, which is the same thing they used to say about Cassell. Hoyer was a UDFA, but I saw many a draftnik that liked him enough to think he get drafted in the 5th round or higher.

I will never believe that the Patriots have a magic ability to find Joe Montanas on the scrap heap over and over.

he does look like Brady though
so he’s got that going for him… which is nice.

He was claimed by the Lions
Which is sad cause he’ll probable be third string at best.

They were the first on the waiver wire
I guess someone wanted him

Here's what I think about the Patriots and their quarterbacks.
And this is completely without foundation, just a gut feeling.
Belichick doesn’t care who his backup quarterback is. His goal is to win a Super Bowl. He figures if his quarterback, who is a superstar, goes down, he’s not winning a Super Bowl. Maybe with a vet he could win a few games and limp into the playoffs, but that’s not his goal. So why bother wasting money on a “real” backup?
This sort of makes sense when you think about it. Back when he first got to the Patriots, his quarterback was Drew Bledsoe, a star who had already gone to one Super Bowl. His backup was a no-name 6th-rounder out of Michigan. Last year, his MVP Quarterback went down, and his backup was a no-name QB who hadn’t started a game since high school.
The philosophy appears to be, who gives a damn about the back-up, I’m not winning a Super Bowl with them anyway.

Didn’t he win his first super bowl with a backup QB?

Yeah, but the point is he didn't know.
At the time Bledsoe was the star starter, and Brady was a no-name 6th round pick who had one completed pass to his name. The point is Belichick didn’t take the back-up seriously, and got lucky. That’s why they never bother with having a serious #2 QB.
