Sixth-round pick Kevin Ellison has agreed to terms on a four-year deal, which was what the Chargers were adamant he take even as Ellison was angling for a three-year deal.

Why would he prefer 3 years over 4?

The smaller signing bonus
was to try to entice the team to take the 3 year deal. If they would’ve taken it, it would’ve been one more year of making “pro” money and one less of making “rookie contract” money.

That might be an effective ploy for a first rounder going for 5 instead of 6 years
But with later rounds they make so little that I don’t think saving 500k would really be something that AJ would be enticed for. That 500k savings could turn into multi-millions in additional money they would have to pay him after year 3 to retain him.
