Actually, there was something Cromartie could have said after the game, to the first reporter who approached him: "My hip is broken, and I can’t get in and out of my breaks."
Apparently Cro played nearly all of last season with a fractured hip, much worse than I think any of us were led to believe.

Yeah ....
I feel pretty certain that AJ would not have been pleased if Cro had said that.
I doubt that any team/FO in the NFL would have been.
My feeling is that, if Cro was really hurt that bad & we value him as a long-term player, he should have been IR’d.

The thing with Cromartie is
even with a broken hip, he was still an upgrade over Drayton Florence. So he may have found out that he couldn’t do any additional damage, and the team may have seen that he was still about 70% as good as when he was completely healthy, and they decided to let him ride it out the season.

You need 3 CBs anyway. So it’s not as if replacing Cro simply meant that Cason would start, it would also mean that Gordon would have got more snaps. And if any injuries started cropping up, the next CB (Tribble?) would have had to step. 70% of Cro is probably better than that.
On a side note, Florence wasn’t coming back under any scenario last season, so you can rule him out of the equation.
