Chargers invade MCAS Miramar
The Chargers held practice Wednesday on the base at MCAS Miramar and got the chance to thank the hundreds of service men and women in attendance for their service to the country. As Chargers players and staff made their way around the grounds of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Wednesday, they were bombarded by marines and sailors stopping to thank them for coming and wish them well on the upcoming season. While they were appreciative of the kind words, it was the Chargers who were just as thankful and appreciative.

Salazar: NFL, Chargers taking cue from NASCAR
Chargers fans, you are about to be tested by the NFL. It’s not about the 2009 schedule. The league is waiting to see how you react to ads on practice jerseys. The league gave teams permission to do business with state lotteries. Soon, you will be able to buy California lottery scratch-off tickets featuring the Chargers logo. The NFL says it’s all fine and dandy because scratching lottery tickets doesn’t affect the outcome of the league’s games. The tie-in with lotteries and ads on practice jerseys don’t signal the end of civilization. I see the moves as smart business decisions...And it’s not just NFL owners who will benefit from creating these new revenue streams. The businesses that will "shoulder" the practice jersey ads will get exposure for their brand or products. Any increase in lottery sales is good for the schools - or so it’s been marketed for the past 20 years.

NFL Betting: Chargers vs. Bears in Super Bowl (and other Futures) - NFL Betting Articles
San Diego Chargers +1615 to win the Super Bowl: What a difference a year makes! Last season, the Chargers were decimated by injuries coming into the season, as Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates were all coming off of serious injuries, and it showed in the performances of LT and Gates, although Rivers did come into his own despite coming off a torn ACL. All three of those studs are healthy now, and we look for Tomlinson to silence his critics that claimed he lost a step by regaining his 2007 form this year. Remember, although they finished at just 8-8, the Chargers may have been the best team in the NFL over the final month of last season, and with a healthy corps group from the outset this year, we feel this team is very capable of winning the whole thing at this great price.

Good idea to change the title.

It was a little large, huh?

I was trying to grab people searching keywords on Google News, but it made the home page look ridiculous. I’m looking for a catchy name to use on all the news-link posts. I’m struggling at the moment. “Lightning Links” was the best I could come up with.

Listened to Darrin Smith interview Kevin Acee

I guess the contract with Rivers isn’t going to happen this offseason. The team is very committed to doing the deal, but the agent is very wary of a future labor dispute. I guess this has been a problem for the team on a few contracts. They are willing to franchise #17, but they don’t want to have to do that because it will hit the cap hard. Kevin also says that the team still sees Forney as the frontrunner for the RG job, but Vazquez has impressed them by being even better than they expected when they drafted him. So, he could win the job, but it’s Forney’s to lose.

Eeesh

Now I’m nervous. The Merriman/McNeil/Rivers/Vincent Jackson free agency monster scared me less when I thought Rivers would be done going into this season. On the bright side, that may be an argument for the head coach to motive the troops. “We’re probably losing one or two star players next season, the window is closing, the time is now!”

I don’t want to say I’m rooting for an NFL without a CBA, but it would seemingly help to make the Chargers more competitive for a few more years.

They were there just a few years ago

And this is their first good QB since…..McMahon? If you could call him a good QB.

Just my point, John

An aging defense. A dearth of good WRs to throw to. Cutler gets blown away in the Windy City. I don’t buy that he’s their savior.

Outside of Urlacher

I don’t know that their defense is “aging”. Starting corners are 28 and 27. Starting DEs are 31 and 30. Tommie Harris is 26. Briggs and Hillenmeyer are 28. Urlacher is 31. I don’t know who their safeties are, but they have 7 on the current roster and none of them are over 28.

Since their super bowl appearance, they’ve been quietly replacing older players with young ones without losing any production. Plus, adding Forte to the offense last year was huge. I’m not predicting them for the super bowl just yet, but I think 2010 could be a big year for them.
