Kevin Ellison blowing up DeSean Jackson.
Now that's the type of hit we're missing from any of our current safeties. Hopefully Ellison can adapt enough to beomce a starter, or at least we can carve out a niche for him. We could certainly use some extra steel in the secondary.

I like this
A LOT
I see Rodney pt 2 or John Lynch. It was good to see him track the QB then anticipate the throw and behead Jackson. Technically an illegal helmet to helmet hit, but who cares.
If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong

The Rodney Harrison comparison could be a good one. The question is if there’s a place for that type of player in today’s game, at least as a starter?

To be fair
The play there was Maualuga, forcing a horrible pass before the receiver even had a chance to complete his route. I did like Ellison’s hit, but nobody should be given credit for knocking DeSean Jackson out of a game. That dude is 150lbs soaking wet. The only reason you don’t see him get hit like this more often is that his QB usually has time for him to run his route and get past defenders downfield.
Basically, this is a play I’d expect a SS to make. Could Clinton Hart make it? Maybe, but not for sure. Ellison might be a step up, but this doesn’t show me anything I didn’t already know. that doesn’t mean it wasn’t interesting to watch. Thanks for posting it gman, keep them coming!

“Basically, this is a play I’d expect a SS to make. Could Clinton Hart make it? "
That’s the key sentence to me. How often do we see Hart make a play like that? Although Maualuga takes great credit fo that play I lvoe the replay where they show Ellison deep, who has his eyes on the QB all the way and follows teh ball right to the target. Great positioning, and he’s right there to lay the hit.
Sure, it’s the type of play we expect an SS to make. The bad thing is, we rarely see a guy in a Chargers jersey making it.
