Bleeding Green Mock Draft
I have volunteered to pick for the Chargers in the Bleeding Green Nation Mock draft. I am a resident of San Diego, I am stationed in Miramar, and I have alot of friends that are Chargers fans. Living there I have seen almost every game last season. I wanted some input from "true" Chargers fans on who and what you want filled. I will take all responses into consideration. So far I feel as though the Chargers need more of a pass rush. When Merriman was placed on IR the pass rush fell apart. So I am assuming a DT or DE. I also am playing with the thought of ILB, even though most ILB do not pass rush, I feel that this would free up Burnett Merriman and Cooper to rush the QB. CB was taken care of next year in the first. OL? Yes the Chargers could use another Tackle to complement Mcniel, but this is a draft with a deep OLine class. Are you guys comtherable with Hart and Weddle at safety? There isnt a 1st round talent safety available. Patrick Chung and William Monroe lead possible late round canidates. But there are knocks on both.

Just my opinion
First off, thank you for serving; I have a real respect for folks that serve the country. I’m pretty comfortable with Weddle at safety, but absolutely think that Hart could be upgraded. There is no straight safety that fits in the first round, but Malcolm Jenkins has been suggested if he falls that far as his combine and Pro Day times were somewhat slow. The ILB position opposite Cooper was clearly a weak point, the Chargers have picked up Kevin Burnett, and he may be a good answer. That said, I would likely still take Rey Maualuga if he hasn’t torn his tendon. Cushing would be great at OLB, though many here think OLB is deep enough. Olshansky is gone so a defensive end (more like a run defense type defensive tackle in the 3-4) would be a nice pick up, Peria Jerry has been mentioned but some think he projects better as a 4-3 tackle. Jamal’s knees are always a concern, but Raji is the only NT worthy of 16 and very unlikely to be available.
The Oline could go as is with the re-signing of Forney and Clary staying at RT, but if a great OT is available I can see taking one. Oher or maybe Andre Smith perhaps, though both come with some baggage. With LT aging and having some injuries runningback has been discussed. Now that LT is signed though, using the first rounder on a RB doesn’t seem worth it; taking a flyer on 3rd or lower round back seems the way to go. AJ found both M. Turner and Darren Sproles lower down; but both Moreno and Wells get mentioned as possibilities in most of the mocks.

I agree with everything you have said. Right now my picks would be a backer that can fit the 3-4 ILB or a DE in the 3-4 or a pass rushing DT that can takeover the DE position. Evander Hood would be a reach, but hes big and fast. I have thought about him. All that said Malcom Jenkins is a top 5 talent and I would pick him up ina heartbeat if he were to fall. But I think the Saints will scoop him up. thanks for the input!

Sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of what you're doing already
I think if you were a regular Eagles fan living in Philly you’d probably say RB because LT is on the “decline” and Sproles is “small.” Plus a lot of typical fans love big name RBs in the first rounds, but there are almost always good options later on.
You’re spot on in targeting RT, DE, ILB and S as our areas of need. There isn’t a safety worthy of the 16th pick, and I’m not sure you wanna take a RT that early when we already have a few serviceable options on the roster.
Maualuga is the pick if he’s available (and as you said, assuming he doesn’t have a serious injury), but you can’t really lock in a pick until you see what people have done ahead of you. That’s why mock drafts are useless. There are always trades no mock draft can account for, and they’ll always be a few reaches.

RT and S can be addressed later. You have servicable players in both with Clary and Weddle, looks like im gonna pick ILB or DE. Lets hope Maualuga or Tyson Jackson is there. I would pick up Jackson over Maualuga but everytime I see Maualuga I think Junior Seau who did great things here in Diego. He would immidieatly be an impact player and fan favorite where Jackson may not contribute much in his first season. Jackson is a beast and would fit the DL inside and out.

RB
You have LT who in my opinion is still a top 5 RB in this league. Sproles is a westbrook clone (West is still better) and your power game can be ran by Hester. So a 5th or 6th round project RB like Ian Johnson will due. Unless you Charger fans think you need to start grooming LTs replacement now. Sproles is to small to be a every down back..then again Maurice Jones-Drew is doing it at 5’7…

I think they will end up using thier 3rd round pick on a RB
They need to start grooming a back to replace LT in a few years and I think they will end up trading sproles at some point this offseason because he wants every down back type money and carries but the Chargers dont see him as an every down back.
