Time to toot our own horns
Remember on our blog when we were bickering with each other after there was a disagreement between the front office and our star player? Remember that?
Oh wait, no, that didn’t happen. Maybe because we’re not a bunch of bickering little girls like those lame Donkey fans!

Pat Bowlen weighs in on Cutler developments
Denver TV station CBS4 is reporting Cutler and Denver tight end Tony Scheffler will not attend the Broncos’ offseason workout program, which begins Monday.
“I’m disappointed in the whole picture,” Bowlen said, “not just disappointed that we might lose our star quarterback.” There it is. The Broncos have publicly said they think Cutler could be gone because of this ordeal

It makes me appreciate
Dean Spanos. When Business is getting out of hand he steps in decisively. Back when AJ and Marty were at each others throats he cut Marty; when AJ and LT were at loggerheads he stepped in and squelched the volume; also clearing the way for LTs deal. The Broncos owner Bowlen appears to be watching his franchise blow up like he was at the movies; you can almost here him going ooooooh.

It's not entirely his fault (psychology lesson)
All a coach and a GM want out of the owner is someone who will leave them alone and not undermine them or question their authority. I certainly appreciate that Dean Spanos knows when to stick his head in and when to keep his nose out of things, but most owners only have the ability to be too involved (Jerry Jones, Al Davis, Daniel Snyder) or not at all involved (all the owners whose names you don’t know).
For years Bowlen has been uninvolved, leaving everything in the hands of Shanahan and Sundquist. Last year Shanahan was given the power to fire Sundquist (their longtime GM) and take over that position. After one year, in which he picked up some good players in the draft and came one win away from winning the division, the project was blown up and Bowlen stood alone. Bowlen came out and said in hiring a new coach he would not be giving out as much power, meaning he wanted to be in the middle of things and making decisions for himself. He even hired what I believe is the youngest head coach in the league and the youngest GM in the league, both in their first time at that job, so that they could not stand up to him the way a more established coach could.
I think somewhere along the line the Bowlen/Shanahan relationship soured and Bowlen convinced himself that he could do a better job. Now he’s trying to prove it in his own way. The thing is, McDaniels is yearning to prove that he could do just as good a job as Belichek without him. He wants to prove that his success as an offensive coordinator has nothing to do with Belichek or Brady and that he was better than Charlie Weis. So you have a couple people busy trying to be the big man and they wind up hurting the feelings of their QB, who is dying to be the big man himself and not be compared to Elway anymore (which wouldn’t happen if he left Denver).
Just a messed up situation out there, but entirely caused by a rift between Shanahan and Bowlen that probably goes back years.

Bowlen
I’m not sure I see how the Shanahan situation fits into this situation. If Bowlen wanted to have more say and picked a coach that he could stare down; he sure has been tentative about exercising his influence here. So far he has been sitting on the sidelines hoping everything will just blow over; as the guy who signs the checks he could certainly call everyone in and lay down the law.
As I think about it, Spanos should have weighed in earlier on the AJ/Schottenheimer rift as well. It’s a tough line between micro-managing and careless management, but Bowlen has been far too hands off here, especially considering the youth of his management team and his quarterback. As it stands the fanbase is becoming divided and the management is being criticized while Bowlen plays his fiddle.

Spanos
He isn’t the owner. Alex Spanos is. Dean Spanos is the President-CEO of the Chargers. He is in charge of all executive decisions including the hiring and firing or coaches, retention of players, etc. The buck stops with him. So he has every right to butt in. Bowlen is the owner, President and CEO of the team. When Shanny was there I think he was the defacto CEO with Bowlen’s hands-off attitude. But with him out, the buck once again stops with Bowlen. So, if he sees something that would improve the football organization, then he should be acting upon it just like Dean.

Do I look fat in these jeans?
After reading the interpretations of the Cutler-Xanders-McDaniels-Cook conversation I’m convinced that Cutler is like the girlfriend/wife asking if he looks fat in these jeans. The difference is that he asked “Do you still want me hear?”. McDaniels then said something like: Look, we were looking at Cassel because I’m comfortable with him in my offense and so he could step in and get the team faster to where I want it to be. That didn’t happen so we don’t need to worry about. Would I trade you in the future? Maybe, if it made the football team better, because that’s my ultimate goal. Right now though, you aren’t being traded and we are ready to win with you here.
Translated to my “fat in jeans” analogy he basically said this: I like girls you don’t look fat in jeans. Supermodels don’t look fat in jeans and I like the way they look. But, I’m not with a supermodel so that’s not really important. Would I like to be with a supermodel? Sure, if it made me happier. But, right now, honey, you look good in those jeans and I’m happy we’re together.
So, there was no implication that anybody looked fat in jeans. He didn’t just say, “No, honey, you look beautiful and skinny.” so the shit hit the fan. Mr. McDaniels and Mr. Xanders just needed to say, “Cutler, you’re a pro bowl QB and you’re going to win a Super Bowl with us. We don’t want to trade you now or ever.” But, they didn’t so Cutler is throwing your shit out the window and screaming uncontrollably.

If you'd like to read that without the grammar/spelling issues:

Insensitive
to comment of Cutlers weight. If he looks fat in his jeans its because he’s diabetic.

If the Broncos brass said “We don’t want to trade you now or ever,” as you suggest, that’s not going to solve the problem. Why? Because it’s a lie! They did try to trade him and McDaniels has continued to say they’d listen to trade offers for anyone on the team.
My best analysis of the situation is that Cutler was the girlfriend/wife that was cheated on. (Now keep in mind two things: 1.) I don’t like Cutler and I’m not defending him by making him seem like the victim. 2.) My girlfriend dragged me to “He’s Just Not That Into You” last night because I make her watch football.) It goes basically like this: McD was caught trying to pick up on a chick at a bar (his ex-girlfriend, in fact), and his new girlfriend (Cutler) found out from some friends that were at the bar. Cutler was obviously feeling hurt and unwanted. He packed his bags (putting two of his three houses on the market), but made one last attempt at reconciliation. He gave McD and Xander a chance to explain and apologize and say it will never happen again and they only have eyes for Cutler. Instead, McD continued to lie and say the girl came up to him, but Cutler is obviously going to believe his friends (league sources) because to him they have no reason to lie. Now Cutler is ready to leave the boyfriend with wandering eyes who continues to lie.
What happens next is anyone’s guess. Like any spat, things could be solved in one meaningful conversation or continue to fester for weeks.

Hopefully
Cutler will kick McDaniel square in the nuts and then start sleeping with McD’s friends… Who are McD’s friends in this scenario? I would first guess the AFC West, but none of us are looking for a QB. So my best best is someone from the Belicheck line, perhaps Mangini and the browns??? Not bad, the browns have a spare QB or two to toss back at the Broncos. Probably Quinn since Anderson is really more of a long ball guy who doesn’t have a real high completion percentage…
I feel kind of like I used to feel when I would come home and my wife was watching Melrose Place and I say “How can you watch this trash?” And then sit down and watch it for an hour with her.

It's supposed to be a lie
Your girlfriend wouldn’t ask you if she looked fat in those jeans if she didn’t think she looked fat in them. Or she’s just testing you. Either way the answer is same.
But you bring up a valid point. Sometimes the crazy bitch is just trying to pick a fight and there’s no right answer.
Analogy… you’re wrong!
