Ask Hogs Haven: Your Redskins Questions Answered
Hey Chargers Fans,
This is Kevin from Hogs Haven, the Redskins SB Nation site. If you have any questions ask away and we'll answer them. This team is in complete shambles and the players have already packed it in. I'm not saying that just because of their poor play the last two weeks. The players have said as much in the post-game interviews. It's sad when you're looking more forward to the off-season than the actual games.
Anyway, fire away...

Is Portis coming back next year?
is Campbell an Unrestricted Free Agent after this season?
My opinion has always been that Moss is a very, very good slot receiver. He can be bumped at the line fairly easily and never really comes back and fights for a ball that’s thrown a little inaccurately. Like most slot receivers, he needs to get open to catch a pass. Agree or disagree?
If you could have any coach, retired or otherwise (they have to be alive), be the coach of the Redskins next season….who would you choose?
Do you believe that Bruce Allen has 100% control?
What do you think of Snyder? (My opinion, after reading of the things he did to Mike Nolan in Next Man Up, is that Snyder is too big of a football fan to be an owner and too arrogant to get out of his own way.

Depends on the CBA agreement
If there is no agreement…then the Skins can cut any player and not take a cap hit since there is no salary cap.
Portis: That means he’s gone. If there is a cap, there would be a massive cap hit and his salary makes him untradeable.
Campbell: If uncapped, he becomes restricted which means teams would have to give us a #1 and #3 pick…which no one would do. If there is a deal reach…there are too many teams that need a QB and the way they treated him here…he’ll prob walk.
Moss: Agree
Coach: Belichick or 1991 Gibbs (he had been out of the game too long to jump back in like he did in 2005. Either way…he left the team much better than when he got here from Spurrier’s mess).

For some reason, maybe it’s all the Miami players, I feel like Jimmy Johnson would be awesome in Washington. If he hadn’t been out of the game for a decade or so.

Shanahan is rumored to be taking the helm in a couple of weeks or so...
And he’s going after Jimmy Clausen!
you bastard
The Redskins have destroyed all their U players! Moss is not a Number 1 receiver, we all agree on this, but they have never used him to his full potential. Portis will be in the NFL next year, just not on the Redskins (I am hoping, even though i have a portis jersey) He would still have breakaway speed and be a elite back if the redskins used him as an outside back. They Ruined him. He is all but finished, but he still can block though, so MAYBE…MAYBE he can be on the O-Line next year for the skins…god knows they need the blocking.
Do you regret the Haynesworth signing?

Yes and No
He’s been dominant when he does play and he’s exposing what’s wrong with how our DC Greg Blache does not use players to their strengths. (They don’t let Albert attack the QB as much as they did at TEN)
The real reason I don’t regret it is b/c the Redskins did not give up any draft picks for him. If Haynesworth doesn’t play 3 solid seasons, then the $$ would have been a waste.
Why I do regret it is because with Zorn out, a new regime is in and is likely turning over the roster. What’s the point of having a $40 mil guy on your roster if you’re rebuilding the O completely and bringing in a new system?

Hmm, here are just a few off the top of my head....
How do you like Fred Davis? Ive heard that he reminds people of a younger Antonio Gates.. any truth to this?
Do you think Jason Campbell’s apart of your future or are you most likely going to be looking for another quarterback soon? (via draft?)
What do you think of LaRon Landry? From some people I hear hes very good, but from others I hear he is overated…
Is Brian Orakpo as tank as his stats are? Whats his biggest weakness?
Alright go to school on these questions, thanks for this by the way its always nice to get an in-depth perspective on opposing teams
There has been time

I don't think one more game is going to change many people's minds
About how good Orakpo and Crabtree are. They have both already been impact players in the NFL.

dude, im just saying that it takes more then one season for a player to show his true potential, and until then its tough to look back and tell who the true steals of the draft are.

And I'm just saying
They are both guys that were expected to go higher but fell for whatever reason and have already made an impact in the NFL unlike some of their counterparts. They are already steals for that reason alone.

At least his arguments are perspicuous and straight forward..
Unlike the stats that for the love of me I can’t understand (DVOA,DYAR etc…) Like how Zach and Rich have the perspicacity for those I do so with wonks arguments…:)
Skins
Fred Davis: Total stud. I just posted an article the Skins have a tough decision to keep Fred or Cooley. Skins desperately need draft picks so I think 1 will be gone. I like Fred given his youth and better blocking.
Campbell; See answer above.
LaRon: Total disaster at Free Safety. He was great with Sean Taylor but Laron cannot pass defend for his life. Skins must address FS this off-season and move Laron back to SS where he’ll spend most of the plays at the line of scrimmage.
Orakpo: Total stud. Skins are using him at LB 1/2the timewhich is frustrating a lot of fans. DE is his natural position at Texas and he is obviously having probs pass covering…so his biggest weakness is he’s not being used correctly.

Davis: Yea, Fred seems pretty dope. Isn’t Cooley a huge fan favorite down there though?.. thats a tough pick man. Also it seems like you guys will be in rebuilding mode so I guess the player with the most potential would be the best (fred) correct?
Campbell: Any QBs u got ur eye on that would be a nice fit in ur system? (although im assuming the system will change with Zorn gone… but still.)
Landry: RIP Sean. Do you think you guys are going to fill FS within the organization, draft, trade or sign someone?
Orakpo: Thats good hes doing well.. he seemed like a genuinely nice guy during draft day and from some interviews ive seen with him
Final question: you must have really hated that fake fg pass crap that u guys pulled a couple weeks ago eh? worst play ever?
by jordanmowbray on Dec 29, 2009 8:32 AM PST up reply actions
Cooley is a huge fan favorite. 99% of all Redskins female fans probably own his jersey. He blogs all the time and is genuinely a nice guy (aside from the massive amounts of community service he does).
QBs: With as bad as this Oline is…and Chris Samuels career over, Peyton Manning couldn’t survive. Half the oline are undrafted free agents. Ironically, among all the FAs available, Campbell is the best one. Everyone wants the Skins to use all their picks on Oline and build the line with Campbell back next year. The Skins need continuity. Having said that, they’ll likely draft a QB with the first pick (Seriously),
Landry: Yes, I do. Probably free agency.
Orakpo: Yea, I interviewed him during OTAs. He is exactly the guy you want on your team. Genuine and hard-working.
Fake FG: Well, it’s the 3rd one this year. I didn’t hate it at first, but when the Giants called TO and they STILL ran it…we were all infuriated. Hunter Smith got predictably creamed.

by jordanmowbray on Dec 29, 2009 8:50 AM PST up reply actions
Not really
He had a bad pre-season last year and the fact the Skins have been heavily recruiting Clausen and Colt McCoy proves their faith in him is pretty low.
Colt still deserves another shot since he was playing with an injury. He was put on IR to fix it and will be 100% when camp rolls around.

How does DC feel about Norv Turner now?
I live in the DC area and watch a lot of games. There are a handful of guys I think won’t be in burgundy and gold next year that should be. Who do you think should definitely be kept?
by Superduperboltman on Dec 29, 2009 7:29 AM PST reply actions
Norv
No hard feelings. Dan Snyder has been firing coaches for a living. No real coach is given a chance ….Zorn included (Cerrato never drafted OLineman the last 2 years). I spoke with former Redskins Kev Harvey who played under Norv and I asked him about Norv’s chances in San Diego this year….he said some good things.

Good interview.
I think the same thing about Turner. He’s gotten progressively better as a HC here, with a competent front office and more experience. That, and having the talent to run his system effectively means he’s having a lot of success here that he didn’t have in previous spots.

Campbell
I think he has certainly improved from the last couple of years. If he had some protection, he would be a winning QB. Add in calling plays to his, and his weapons strengths, I think he could lead a formidable offensive attack. Like Kevin said, he would be no Peyton Manning, and the offense wouldn’t look anything like a top 10 offense, but it would at least take pressure off of the defense, and Campbell could get some wins.
I agree completely
Campbell was never going to set records or anything, and when he was initially drafted by gibbs, he was supposed to more of that smart quarterback in a run-first offense. Even if he didnt have to go through 5 offenses in 5 years or whatever that is, he wasn’t going to do spectacular, but he is the quarterback that would usually get the job done, not win too many games for the team, but won’t lose them either.
He played well today.
Of course it wasn’t against the Chargers best defensive line-ups, but most of our guys that were out there have been playing all year. Spillman probably the least of all, except Hughes and Garay, I guess. I didn’t notice if Holt was in there much — if at all…. Saw the game at the gym, so I wasn’t watching as closely as I otherwise would have.
I've always been curious
The Redskins with Joe Gibson were obviously very good. So I know there are good Redskins fans.
A couple of questions. Does everyone in DC hate Dan Snyder?
And are the Cowboys still your most hated rival?
Well let me welcome everybody to the wild wild west. A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness.

Yes, everyone hates Snyder
And the Cowboys are still definitely the most hated rival.
Sadly, the Skins have been so pathetic this decade that all are foes are no longer are most hated rival….Eagles/Giants/Cowboys hate each other more.

No more true rivals
I think that is probably the saddest thing about being a Redskins fan these days. There are no wins and the team is in total disarray – and that leads to no true rivalries, including the Cowboys. Sure, there is still hate there on our side. And the players can make half-hearted efforts in proclaiming their dislike for each other during the week leading up to gametime. And the commentators can make cliche comments, but it is their job to hype up a game. And the broadcasts can show clips from the 70’s and 80’s, and even a little early 00’s to make the telecast look good. But in actuality, there isn’t anything there, and that is really sad. I really hope things start to turn around, even just a little, so it is fun to be a fan again.

It’s so hard to predict since this team has packed it in already. I can’t see the Redskins winning any of these battles. One thing is for sure, Landry will/should not be covering Gates.

Atrocious is an under-statement. Most of the Redskins OLine are undrafted free agents.
Weakest position is probably Free Safety…although arguably defensive coordinator.

O-Line without a doubt
Of the 5 out there only Rabach (Center) and Dockery (Guard) are arguably starters (and I stress “arguably”, there are definitely a lot of teams neither would start on). Otherwise this season has been musical chairs on the line with undrafted free agents, veterans from other teams, and a guy who came to training camp weighing 400 pounds who hadn’t played in the NFL for I believe 2 seasons. Our one young lineman draft pick Chad Rhinehart (3rd round 2008) didn’t perform well when he was playing and is now on IR. They’re so bad that 7 step drops have been completely removed from the playbook. The run block is laughable and the pass protection has Jason Campbell nanoseconds away from a body bag whenever the ball is in his hands.

Any Skins worthy of a Pro Bowl nod?
Any guys who you feel are at the top of the game at their position, even if surrounded by all sorts of crud and incompetence?
Also, thanks for beating the Broncos earlier.
London Fletcher
It’s a shame he has never been on one despite having comparable stats to Ray Lewis. He is a true leader and has played 100% hard though every play despite the circus that is the Redskins.
The announcements come tonite for the Pro Bowl, and the fan votes he did not win, which make up 33%. If Fletcher did an obnoxious dance after each tackle or hit, he’d be in for sure. He’s 3rd in the NFL this year in tackles…always up there.

No offense, but it’s a terribly racist name and mascot and all… but one of the arguments against changing it is “tradition.”
If Snyder changed the name/mascot of the team to, I don’t know, the Capitals, would you get up and arms about it?
