Predicting the Score By the Numbers

The Bengals are only allowing their opponents to score 16.7 points per game (on average) this season, while the Chargers are scoring 27.9 points per game (on average).  Will the chargers high powered O get past the Bengals stingy D click below to find out.

So far this season the Bengals have score on average 20.3 points per game and have allowed an average of 16.7 points per game.   The Bengals opponents have scored 20.2 points and allowed 21.0 points per game on average thus far this season.   If you compare these two sets of numbers you can see that the Bengals have scored 0.7 fewer points per game than their opponent's average and have allowed 3.5 fewer points per game than their opponent's average.

The Chargers have scored 27.8 points per game and allowed 19.9 points per game on average so far this season, while their opponents have scored an average of 19.5 points per game and allowed 21.9 points per game on average thus far in the season.  If you compare these two sets of numbers you can see that the Chargers are scoring 5.9 more points per game than their opponent's average and are giving up 0.4 more points per game than their opponent's average.

The Bengals allow on average 16.7 points, the Chargers score on average 5.9 points higher than average, the Bengals should allow 22.6 points.

The Chargers score on average 27.8 points, the Bengals allow 3.5 fewer points than average, Chargers should score 24.3 points

The Chargers allow on average 19.9 points, the Bengals score on average 0.7 fewer points than their opponents average, Chargers should allow 19.2 points.

Fun, but past performance...

cannot predict the future, especially for a case where N=1. Now if we play the Bengals, say, 100 times this week, we might have a slight edge.

I really enjoyed this analysis.

That said, your first statement is inaccurate. GB, Houston, and Minnesota all scored over 20 points on my beloved Bengals. I can’t wait to see how this game plays out.
