Around SBN: MLB Trade Rumors: Edwin Jackson to the White Sox, DC next?

"According to people who know him," the article said, "Turner will possess an enormous urge to demonstrate that he's a better head coach than Phillips, that he's a better offensive game planner and playcaller than Jason Garrett, and that he has developed Philip Rivers into a quarterback who can statistically outperform Tony Romo and win on the Cowboys' field when it really matters."

All of that came true Sunday, including this detail: Turner's offense knew exactly what Phillips' defense would do. Dallas linebacker Keith Brooking said the Chargers were calling out the Cowboys' blitzes before the Cowboys were.

This just confirms to me

how much Turner has grown both as a head coach and a play-caller. The Chargers ate the Cowboys’ defense alive. Even the drives that stalled, were more the result of off-target throws by Philip rather than bad play-calls.

Now that I believe. I think Norv’s interview with Dallas was a sham, and I think it was insulting that they interviewed him with a rookie OC already in place. I’m sure he had a chuckle over out-coaching Garrett.

I am beginning to hate ESPN

Between Skip Bayliss and Woody Paige, I thought Paige was a drunk who babbled all the time, today on 1st and 10 Skip Bayless says and I quote “the Cowboys lost to the San Diego Chargers because of Ware’s injury”

Again, no respect for the Chargers. Its getting old.

I believe Bayless wrote a book on the Cowboys, so it’s in his best interest to keep the Cowboys relevant/good in the eyes of viewers.

I hate Bayless though, and Paige used to at least be a good writer but he’s not even that anymore

So wait ...

He’s saying the Cowboys are so thin elsewhere that when they lose one player on the D-line, the entire rest of the team is incapable of making up for it?

by creanium on Dec 14, 2009 12:55 PM PST up reply actions

I think they’re both stupid and pathetic, Paige slurs when he talks, and thats irritating. But I am so sick of San Diego always being at the bottom of the list. I guess its more motivation for them to continue this run of great wins.

I just remember back in the Dan Fouts/Don Coryell days , it was alot of the same. Even though the internet has changed the way we get info now….its just a disrespect thing that gets annoying.

Wasn't I arguing with someone about which unit would have the "familiarity advantage"?

Just wanted to throw out an “I told you so” on that one. With a H/T to Antonio Gates for eluding to this advantage in a Friday interview.

Alluding

He alluded to this advantage. He eluded Cowboys defenders. The media remains deluded into believing that the east is where it’s at, but that’s an illusion created by East Coast bias.

That is your lesson for the day.

Here's a question I have.

When the Cowboys committed a false start penalty just before their last TD, shouldn’t they have run 10 seconds off the game clock?

That's what I thought too

WTF happened there?

by Wonko on Dec 14, 2009 3:27 PM PST up reply actions

The rule

is that “Offensive penalties that require clock and play stoppages include a ten second runoff from the game clock in addition to the usual penalty.” A false start requires both clocks to stop. So that penalty should have ended the game.

And what makes even less sense is that when it occurred, you can see the official running to the sideline making a clock-winding motion, as if he’s either telling someone to run the clock or asking someone whether or not it should run. And they still didn’t do it.

The clock was already stopped

The previous play was an incomplete pass, so the false start penalty didn’t cause a clock stoppage.

Right

Forgot about that.

Wouldn't doubt it

there were a few really bad no-calls for PI. One where Floyd was absolutley mauled by the defender.

Not really

Cromartie got away with a ticky tack hold around 6 yards from the LOS. Our WRs got intentionally tackled multiple times as they were looking up for the ball.

It wasn't necessarily even

But the back judges seemed all-around sucky as opposed to one-sided.

They were equally bad. The Cowboys just committed more penalties that went uncalled.

Yeah that I agree with

The refs consistently sucked.

I was there and can confirm

I watched this game from the 11th row on the 10 yard line at Cowboys Stadium (best seat I could get inside Jerry-world) and I can tell you that every word stated in the above quote is absolutely true. The Dallas Cowboys were out-classed in every way by a much more motivated and better coached San Diego Charger team. Good luck in the playoffs SD, and keep your men healthy.
