Congratulations from a Giants Fan
Before this game, I always thought the chargers were an overrated team resting on it laurels in an underachieving (read: downright crappy) AFC West. I was at the game today, and I can tell you, the last two minutes, everyone in the stadium thought we were going to come up with a win.
Everyone but your QB of yours, Phillip Rivers.
In an outstanding performance, Rivers led an amazing, and Eli-esque come back. (I'm not sure how being eli-esque is perceived by charger's fans, but to most giants fans, eli is credited with being one of the most clutch qb's in the league). Despite a previous 3 and out where you lost yardage each time, Rivers bravely led you guys down the field, knowing nothing less than a td was needed.
If anything good could happen today as a Giants fan, there was one thing, and I will admit one thing I never thought I would say.
I have respect for Phillip Rivers

There's nothing nicer after a win
…than a sincere congrats from the opposition. Thanks, Will.

To return the respect:
It was either team’s game to win. Coughlin was probably too conservative, and the Giants (obviously) had too many penalties. The Chargers capitalized. Somebody had to win the game, and it easily could have been the Giants.

I agree
I know the Giants fans are really down on their team right now, but I think this was a game of two evenly matched teams. I feel pretty good about my team right now, and I think Giants fans should hold their heads high. They just got to go to work, get healthy and win some divisional games after the bye.

Chargers = Aztecs
We have proof.

It all hinges on the Broncos game at Mile High
The winner of that game is not guaranteed but highly likely to win the division — and probably finish 11-5; the loser I will predict will finish a game back at 10-6. 10-6 is usually good enough for a wild card, but sometimes not. We have to keep rooting against the Ravens and Texans especially, but also even the Jags and Jets. The Bengals, Steelers, Patriots and Colts will be in (it would seem).

There's a few teams that are 6-2 now..
that could completely fall apart the 2nd half of the season. My examples? Try the Redskins and Bills from last year, started 6-2, finished 7-9 and 8-8. The Broncos this year remind me very much of those teams, a mediocre QB that can’t carry their team.

In the campbell's defense
Its hard to throw the ball when your oline would let me get to you.
Unless Denver’s o-line gets old very fast, I think you guys’ll still be in for a fight

Giants and Chargers definitely evenly matched
Hard to say whether the two teams are good, mediocre, or somewhere in between…. At the moment I’d say somewhere in between — both with the potential to be good. But thanks to just a 1-point win (which could have gone either way), the Chargers are heading in the right direction, while the Giants are not…. We’ll see what happens against Philly. Even if we don’t win that one (and, strangely, would have a losing record at home), if we can beat Denver in Denver, we’ll be looking good — even if just to finish 10-6 (not to contradict my other post just below).
If Norv doesn’t take a look at how the Steelers’ hurry-up kept Dumerville off the field and employ that at least once a half against Denver, he’ll be as poor a coach as some of us sometimes think he is…. The Giants game may have been his best coaching job of the season (so maybe he’s learning), but that doesn’t say much…. At least LT only got 12 carries. Gates’ drops really hurt. (Floyd’s didn’t, as he caught a pass for a 1st down on the same drive as his drop.) Turner came out with two short passes, including one to Legedu, but then abandoned the short passing game almost immediately…. I’m all for trying the run here and there and for throwing the ball up top a couple times a half, but what’s the matter with a more west-coast offense, minus an over-reliance on running back screens?
Continuing to lose TOP will kill us in a key game or two against the best teams, and our offense will continue to be inconsistent as long as they’re willing to give away multiple possessions each half.

I hope you guys beat philly
You’d be doing us a favor.
We’ll do our best on thanksgiving to beat the broncos.

Agreed
while I appreciate the sentiment expressed by my fellow football fan, I must admit that “Eli-esque” does not sound like a compliment

Especially considering
how Philip was robbed of three “game winning drives” last season when his defense couldn’t hold a lead late.

Sure, why not
Rivers now has 10 comebacks
Eli has 11
Ben has 19
Of course, Rivers didn’t start his first game until 2007 while the other two have been starting since 2005.

So Rivers got credit for 2 for the Giants game?
Because during the broadcast they said he had 9.

Not surprisingly
I saw Cooper called “Jyles Tucker” about 4 times during the game. I hate that pairing. I’ll take Fouts any day.

That’s actually fairly accurate in that had Rivers and the offense performed at a high level earlier in the game there would have been no need for a comeback.

Thanks for the congrats
With a very few exceptions, the Giants’ fans were a good group to hang with. There’s always gonna be a couple of “tough guys”, but the folks around us were good-natured & I really enjoyed talking football with them.
Like others have said – close game, could obviously have gone the other way with only a slight change in events. Well played by 2 teams struggling to find their identity.
“Eli-esque”? You lost me there, but hey … I expect a fan to support his guys. I prefer to think of Phillip as a winner & one bad-ass country boy.
Good luck the rest of the way. Beat the snot outta the Cowboys.

As much as I like the congrats and respect
I still have to say sticking it to Eli after his “I don’t wanna be a Charger” draft day was pretty nice. I still think Eli is a girl just because he didn’t wanna play his big brother in the same conference.
I love Rivers. People hate him because he wears his emotions a lot, but I respect him for that. And for him to win in the city that drafted him, never talked to him and traded him was nice to see.
Well let me welcome everybody to the wild wild west. A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness.
