Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck have not been dominant. Osi, I think, is not the same player he was a few years ago. Tuck tore his labrum in Week 2 and has been trying to play thru it, but he hasn't been dominant. Inside, Fred Robbins is coming off microcracture knee surgery and isn't what he used to be. The Giants might get Chris Canty back this week, and that has to help some. As for the run defense, here is my thought. robbins is not the player he used to be, same for Antonio Pierce. So, they aren't physically imposing in the middle any more. Also, there has been an astounding lack of discipline, with guys seemingly freelance and not handling their responsibilities. That is very un-Giants like, and very much on the head of the defensive coordinator.
A chat with 'Bolts From The Blue' - Big Blue View
I had a very interesting conversation the other day with Ed Valentine, manager of Big Blue View, about the strengths and weaknesses of the Giants and Chargers. Enjoy.

when did the Giants lose their D-Coordinator
was that last off-season? He became the coach of the Rams right?
I’ve heard that DC changes can cause some problems… not that we have ever experienced that here is Chargerland

yup, Steve Spagnuolo left this past offseason to coach the Rams
I think the biggest problem is that Spags brought over Jim Johnson’s (RIP) system from the Eagles, and implemented it pretty well, but Sheridan has only worked in that system for 2 years. You look at the Eagles, they replaced Johnson with a guy who’s been an assistant in the system for almost a decade. It’s a complicated system, so I think they’re asking Sheridan to do too much – he’s supposed to stay with it even though he hasn’t really mastered it.

C.C. "Can't Cover" Brown
Big Blue View hit it right on the head….if you guys get Jackson deep on our fill-in safety Brown, we’re screwed. He’s been abused for 3 games straight now.
Lost our safety Kenny Phillips for the year and it has haunted us every game. Between that and our slow linebackers (who will NEVER be able to cover Gates)….I’m pretty pessimistic about this one.
Our only chance is to set the tone of the game by running early and scoring first.
OH….and our kicker can’t get a kickoff past the 10 f’n yardline, so Sproles is gonna have a fun day.
Good luck guys. It’s gonna be ugly for one of us…

That’s the first time I’ve actually believed a Giants fan when he says the Chargers will win. I think it was the Sproles returns that got me excited. Also, anytime VJ can attack a weak player in the secondary it’s going to happen.
That’s not to say the Giants won’t be able to “run early and score first”, they probably will.
Kenny Phillips is awesome. I wish he was a Charger. Glad to see we don’t have to play against him.

I definitely remember hoping that the Chargers could get Phillips the year he was drafted.

I have posted the same thing
ie CC sucks, the special teams are giving up huge returns, and our Linebackers are slow. He is not the only one who knows how rough it will be.

C.C. MAYBE OUT!!!
Ok, I have restored hope now:
1. Rouse (who may suck just as bad) is practicing with our 1st team defense and C.C. Brown looks like he won’t start due to a bad case of suckincoverageitis. rouse might be bad too, but any different look we can give your pass offense is fine by me.
By the way, as bad as our safeties are, Corey Webster (our #1 CB) is one of the best and most underrated in the league. Nobody really throws near him and he even did a nice job on Fitzgerald, so you might expect a bigger day our of Floyd and Gates in the passing game with their mismatches.
2. Boley our best coverage LB has practiced all week and looks ready to play. He’s our only chance at containing Gates and Sproles.
3. Canty (DT) is set to return too. Our run stopping and pass rush in the middle of our line has been so-so this year, so this should give us a boost.
I still say the minds of our players will be “get this over with and get to the bye” and we’ll lose by 2 TDs.
If you’re in SD and see a black civic with a white “ny” on the back window….that’s me!! Good luck guys!

Seems like the Giants also realized this.
It was interesting to see how they neutralized Sproles all day, but it gave us quite good field position especially on Punts. We didn’t seem to do anything with it most of the day though, so their strategy seemed to work.

Line Naanee up on either side
& hit him with quick slants behind Tuck or Osi. That & screens to different players, not just Sproles, will help to slow the rush down a bit.

Norv’s offense isn’t big on quick slants to the slot receiver. I believe you’re looking for the Broncos, Patriots or Packers.

You can add the Texans, Bears and Seahawks to that.

Will do. Although I haven’t seen much of Chicago or Seattle this season.
