"I was two or three steps out of the tunnel when Shaun Phillips raced up to me with his helmet off and said, 'I'll kick your [expletive] ass, too,' " explained McDaniels. "I'm not saying I felt physically threatened but that's exactly the way it went down. It surprised me in a way but we played them a lot when I was in New England and he's always been that kind of guy.
"I wasn't out there trash-talking their players, going through their drills. This guy has been doing this since I've been in the league and, because they won, he takes the liberty of telling his side of the story. I didn't swear at him or threaten him. What I actually said was, 'I've heard the same thing from you for four or five years now, and when I was in New England, we owned you.'"
The Broncos coach added, "Now, I'll apologize for that but it was nothing like [Phillips] portrayed."

I knew Phillips was involved
I won’t just automatically accept McDaniels’ version, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit that Phillips was in the middle of it & likely fired the first shot.
BFD. Move on. We play KC today.

this is awesome!
these are the things that make it so much fun to play a team twice a year. were only going to get manning and cutler once in a blue moon. next time they should slap each other, id like to see some slaps.

Josh McDaniels = Cutler
What is it about mile high air that creates whiny little pricks? If Phillips was “responsible” for this (still not convinced he was), then I give him all the credit for being able to incite an emotional response from an opposing coach. Regardless of who is responsible, this breeds a nice rivalry again, and I can’t wait for the next time we beat them at the Q, to the crowd chanting “WE-OWN-YOU”.
Didn’t he tell reporters after the game that he couldn’t comment about this because the language wasn’t fit for print? I guess the collective readership became less offended with the Fbomb in the span in one week, because he had no problem dropping it to ESPN.
Danny boy, the bottom line is you are not with New England anymore, and it insults your current team to have to refer to your old one when shit talking.

Teacher, the bully was mean to me...
McDaniels indicated the Broncos have asked the league to investigate the incident that preceded the Chargers’ decisive victory on Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.
If you were a man, you’d take care of this on the field, not go tattling to the NFL.

The team handled it
They whipped the Broncos thoroughly.
Football & smack go together. This is a non-issue in my book. What are they gonna do – hand out detention slips?
Time to move on to the Chiefs, folks. A little smack like this just keeps the rivalry alive, but it shouldn’t require all of the media attention that it’s gotten. Anyway – I like him being a little mouthy. Without some fire in this rivalry, it becomes a bore.

Seriously?
I’m pretty sure I saw him coaching on the field. Was he in the press box?

Seriously
Phillips and Coop talk WAY TOO MUCH for being about average NFL linebackers—I totally believe McDaniels and its not like its the first time during pregame drills this year Chargers have started altercations. Even as I am a fan of the Defenses’ resurgence, I credit Rivera. I kind of like McDaniels’ jab at Norv that he would make sure that none of his players never did this. Most Chargers have matured a bunch from the “Ellis Hobbs was making fun of the Light-Out Dance on our helmet – that’s disrespectful” days, but to compete with the Colts and Patriots, you’ve got to turn the passion into professionalism. (I thought Norv was brought in for professionalism over the Rah-Rah speeches of Marty.)
At least Al Davis isn't running my team's drafts.

Like buck said above
Football & smack go together. Nothing that was said was even remotely offensive, and I have no problem with either of their actions. Everything you just listed is exactly what i wan’t in a football player/team.
Also, we DO compete with the Colts, or have you not watched the Chargers play the last few years? As, for the Patriots, if you equate professionalism with all out cheating then I want no part of that.

And yet there he is trading barbs himself. McDaniels is a prick.
