He should play against KC

That's pretty good news

It looked like it was going to be a lot worse than that and we shouldn’t miss him too much in our next two games at least

Strike that then perhaps

Just seen SoulSD’s update there

Dombrowski should play plenty well at RT

Better than I expected...

But I’d really like to see our starting 5 O-Line healthy and playing together for more than 2 and 1/2 quarters against the Raiders.

i think everyone underestimates this injury

clary is clearly (pun intended) better then dombrowski and this could hurt us.

Hope they can sign Jon Runyan or someone..

I can’t imagine that Runyan could outplay Dombo down the stretch. He’s probably better than Clark, but I don’t think he wants to come all that way to be a backup.

we won't know unless he gives it a try and signs with the rightful owners of 1st place in the AFC West!

I think I’d rather have a guy who has been practicing with the team and knows the playbook like Dombrowski than bring in a Runyan or equivalent.

I agree.

Also the team seems to think highly of Dombrowski’s ability to play tackle.

by Zach (maestro876) on Nov 23, 2009 1:34 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yes I think he's better suited for this team right now

Without a doubt. It never even crossed my mind that Runyan would be better. Offensive lines aren’t plug n’ play, you can’t just sign a vet off the street and think he’ll do better than a talented backup.

What about Paul Bunyan?

He’s getting up there in years, I know, but it totally rhymes with Runyan.

Does he count as just one guy?

I’d be a little concerned about his ability to get his pads low, but he’ll never be called for holding! Unless he picks a guy up with two fingers and shakes him, and that would totally be worth the 10 yards.

He’d be a good receiver. “What is this ‘interception’ thing of which you speak?” He’d also be hard to tackle.

Acee wrote that Clary definitely won't play for a few weeks.

Whether or not he goes on IR depends on if they think he can get back in time for the post-season.

Broken Fibula?
CHARGERS T JEROMEY CLARY HAS BROKEN FIBULA:

Right now the news isn’t any better for Chargers T Jeromey Clary.

Sources told Fox31’s Josina Anderson that the third-year player suffered a fracture in the Chargers 32-3 victory over the Broncos.

"(Clary) has a broken fibula. It was a clean fracture, mid-shaft," said a source to Anderson.

It was also indicated that Clary had a close fracture-meaning that it did not go through the skin.

Clary was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter, after clutching his left leg and being down for several minutes.

Doctors who spoke with FOX31 Sports said that if Clary elects to have surgery and plate this fracture he could potential play on it after two or three weeks as the fibula is not a weight bearing bone-as they have observed such cases.

In that procedure, a stainless steal plate would be surgically placed across the site of the fracture above and below the break, secured with about six screws, and the healing process is usually faster.

Electing not to have surgery would give Clary approximately a six to eight week window to heal, and also leaves concerns that the healing would be less precise.

Clary’s agent, David Dunn, was not immediately available for comment to this report, as Fox31 was told he was traveling at the time.

What about LJ Shelton?

I don’t believe he’s signed with anyone else.

by parvulesco on Nov 23, 2009 9:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Has Shelton ever played right tackle?

Like I noted on a different post, Runyan is apparently comfortable enough in San Diego to have been a part-owner of the Riptide.

Can we PLEASE draft Ali Villanueva of Army this year??? I'd mortgage a kidney for a tackle/wideout hybrid.

He played there with the Cardinals too

I would venture to guess that at least 40% of his games have been at RT.

Rec'd

I don’t see how a free agent is going to come in and be better than Dombrowski the rest of the season.

We are making a playoff push

What happens if McNeil or Dombrowski gets hurt? Runyan can provide some solid depth at least, and is a great pickup by AJ. Also if Dombrowski isn’t working out in a couple weeks, Runyan can take over.

by SJO on Nov 25, 2009 10:40 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

According to Acee, the team is looking at available free agents

so obviously they aren’t thrilled with the idea of Dombrowski as the new RT. I’d be surprised if they sign anybody, since the junk pile is pretty bare, but Shelton might make some sense since he’s younger than Methuselah, has some experience at the position, and has at least a little experience with the Chargers. Obviously if he had a lot left he wouldn’t be available, but I don’t think it’s ridiculous to wonder if he’d be better than Dombrowski.

Depth

I’m guessing it’s to backup Dombrowski should Clary go on IR. We need another tackle should we lose Clary for the season

by gman87 on Nov 24, 2009 11:07 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

According to Acee

They’ve looked and they don’t see a better option than Dombo out there. I saw that on his vlog yesterday.

One interesting thing is I guess the UFL season ended, so there is the potential to pick up some guys from there if it seems worth it.
