The ligaments in Kyle Orton's left ankle are torn. He certainly isn't.

Orton adamantly wants to start Sunday against San Diego and help the Denver Broncos snap out of a monthlong funk that has wiped out their 3½-game cushion over the Chargers in the AFC West.

Orton sits as Simms takes reps

Makes you wonder, who would the Chargers prefer to go up against? The healthy second-stringer, or the hobbled first-stringer?

Give us Orton

If anything else happens, he’s gone for the year it would seem. Which could end the season for them.

I would rather the Chargers beat them when they are full strength, but . . .

If it’s going to be like that, I’d rather that Simms plays. Orton hits me as a fighter. He has won games. Like Rivers did two years ago, he can play even with bad feet. Simms is a big step down. Another thing is, if Orton does have torn ligaments in his ankle, he won’t heal fully by the end of the year. He may be hobbled the rest of the way no matter what.

That's good news for us

That means even if Orton does play, it’s not going to be because he feels any healthier. Rather it’ll be because he feels he can play through the pain.

Also, to whoever said we needed to get Orton running around. That’s probably not happening now. KO will stay in the pocket and either throw or get sacked. If he even plays.

Anyone else notice the Chargers seem to be catching everyone at the right time? They caught the Giants and Eagles when their secondaries beat up, and now probably the most important person on Denver’s offense will either miss the game of play with torn ankle ligaments.

Meanwhile, the Chargers started out the year banged up but mostly everybody is playing in the games these days. I’m starting to agree with Richard (I think that’s who it was) on his theory that a soft training camp from Norv is what has slowed the team down at the beginning of the season and also what has kept them strong/healthy for a November/December run each year.

I'm ok with a slow start

As long as we make the playoffs and are peaking at the right time, we don’t need to be undefeated to win a super bowl.

Soft training camp?

That could also lead to injuries from not getting the team into game-ready shape. I’ve wondered for awhile now about the team’s overall conditioning & the training staff.

As for the Broncos’ QB for Sunday – don’t really care. If Orton plays, his mobility is drastically reduced & we zero in on him. If it’s Simms, we take away the run game & make him try to beat us.

Either way, I like our odds a lot.

funny i thought the same thing

i pointed that out to my friend who is an eagles fan that we are playing people at the right time “its not who you play its when”. Even though thats true, i think it gives our team great confidence and it shouldnt de-value any of the wins because great teams are supposed to be able to good depth.

Torn ligaments?

That’s Nick Hardwick injury.

Even if he limps out there, I can’t imagine he’ll be effective.

With Simms being a left-handed QB

and their starting right tackle out, Rivera better be matching up Merriman on the right side of that line.

Sweet, I got front-paged!

Seriously though, I’m not sure which I’d enjoy seeing more. Orton hobbling around unable to scramble out of the pocket? Or Simms constantly getting blasted by the blind-side blitzes?

I have no expectations for the game, nor am I overly confident, I’m just hoping for a complete Chargers blowout just like in the last game of the season last year.

Torn ligaments

Still could mean that it’s just a sprained ankle. A sprain is a tear. This story doesn’t really give us any new information other than it is his left foot and not his right foot.

Actually

Michael Lombardi had already reported that it was a left ankle. So, this article does nothing except panic Broncos fans.

Well, a sprain could just mean a ligament is stretched but not torn. For it to be torn would imply a second-degree sprain, and based on how badly he was limping around on Sunday, I’m not surprised to hear it’s actually torn. Just how much tearing is there, they won’t tell us.

All I do know, it’s not smart at all for him to play through it, he should rest and let it heal or it could be damaged more.

Hmmm, let’s hope he plays on Sunday, heh.

The more I read these stories

the more I think that Orton won’t be able to play. My gut tells me he’s going to try to start, and either won’t be able to, or he won’t last very long.

by Zach (maestro876) on Nov 19, 2009 3:00 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

He'll last just long enough

to take a couple of big hits due to being largely immobile.

Then the feasting will really begin.
