Downtown S.D. site set for stadium site
The city of San Diego’s downtown redevelopment agency is poised to hire a New York consultant for $160,000 to study how to pay for a downtown football stadium.
The hiring of sports finance consultant Mitchell Ziets and Evolution Media Capital LLC is a sign San Diego is moving quickly three weeks after a rare private meeting between Mayor Jerry Sanders and Chargers president Dean Spanos to discuss the team’s desire for a new stadium.

Seems counter-productive to spend
$160,000 to save money but at least something is going forward.

Yeah I got to say that it's very wasteful. There has to be a more cost efficient way to get all the information that is neccesary.

$160,000 is about right for a feasability study of that size.
My guess is that the traffic work alone will cost 50 to 60 K

That's nothing
On a billion dollar project. The fact that the city is willing to pay out cold cash must mean they are pretty serious. I like that it was kept under wraps until after they had talked so we didn’t get the usual posturing.

This is a very positive sign...
Coming from the city… It has always been the chargers that have spent the money on estimates, etc. Good to see that the city is truely serious about getting this going.
Now let’s hope the plan can pass a vote.

My take as well
Maybe this is money being spent to primarily line the lawyers, pockets, but it’s the city’s money for a change.
It’s not shovel time yet, but it sure sounds more promising than anything to date.

I know a couple of people that are really happy about that. It’ll drive out some of the homeless from the area.

that's the other side.
stadium moves in, who moves out? and where do they go? i guess that’s apart of the 160,000 payment to study this aspect.

I hope they stop coming over here,I'm tired of their makeshift villages.
I had to call my land lord to put a padlock on the dumpster area in the alley by my pad cuz they were using it as a toilet.Human piss and shit smells horrible. My son can’t even play outside that long cuz these guys are all over the place always rummaging and asking for money.I almost beat the shit out of one last time cuz he asked my lil boy for money, wtf. This will be a problem but I hope it can be solved.

Football & the homeless
I’m in favor of the downtown stadium, but the city really does need to do more re the homeless situation. Father Joe’s doesn ‘t help much because of its operating policies. The way it is now, we’ll have encampments all around the new stadium, or the homeless will be moved into surrounding neighborhoods. The city can’t continue to ignore this.
