AFC West Standings

I'll be around here later, as I'm getting together a post of mid-season awards and grades for everyone.  I just wanted to point out, to all of those people who didn't watch the game last night, that the Chargers are definitely in the picture for the division championship.

AFC West Standings

W L T PF PA
Denver 6 2 0 150 124
San Diego 5 3 0 206 179
Oakland 2 6 0 78 201
Kansas City 1 7 0 126 205

Don't make too big of a deal of this week

A win against the Eagles would be great, but if the Chargers lose and the Broncos beat the Redskins….2 games back going into Denver isn’t the worst situation. It would just make the game in Denver much more important. Essentially, it would be a must-win.

Look at the 3 weeks after the SD/DEN game. The Bolts play KC, Cleveland and Dallas. The Broncos play the Giants, KC and Indianapolis. I have confidence that SD could make up a game in that stretch.

@ Denver is almost a must-win anyway

Even if we beat the Eagles, If Denver at 7-3 holds the tiebreaker, and we’re 6-4 with all losses in the AFC, the Bengals game becomes as important as the Broncos game looks now, but for the Wildcard, and our chances at a division title will very remote. Obviously, that’s not insurmountable (2008 was even more unlikely), but it’s not a good place to be. But if we beat the Eagles and the Broncos, then all of a sudden we’re in the mix for a bye round, and with Denver still having 3 division games to risk (compared to our one such game) and a somewhat tougher schedule (we go to Cleveland, they go to Indy, otherwise pretty comparable).

The

biggest reason for the win against denver will be for the tie breaker up to this point. And this week I agree is not nearly as important as next week.

Skins beat Donkeys?

Watching the Donkeys for the last two week, they look exposed. Their offense is simply awful. Their Defense is legit, but their style does two things:

It keeps them in games.
It keeps their opponents in the game.

This means they can beat good teams and lose to bad teams (sound familiar?).

Skins will beat the Donkeys.

Agree with your thoughts

on the Broncos 100%. But sadly I do not have the faith in the Skins that you do.

The formula for the Redskins win

Keep the Broncos offense stifled. This seems possible since the Redskins defense has been pretty good and the Broncos offense has trouble sustaining drives.

At least score a little on offense. This will be hard. Jason Campbell is having a decent season despite what his team thinks, but he has no offensive line and just lost his running back. Still, maybe they could find a big play somewhere. They did it a little last year.

Get the lucky bounces. Fluky stuff on special teams will work. Nice bounces on some fumbles would do it. Orton thinking his WRs are 8 ft tall again would do it too.

That’s pretty much it. I don’t see the Redskins going all Tennessee Titans and suddenly figuring out how to play like a good NFL team again.

One game at a time, right?

The Chargers just need to take care of their schedule and all will fall into place.

Told you guys the Steelers had it last night!!

Hopefully San Diego can use the same defensive gameplan that Baltimore and Pittsburgh has used the last 2 weeks.

You all must be wondering why as a Steelers fan i’m cheering for you guys.

I love to bet on sports and i placed a bet at the beginning of the season. It was a division winner parlay.

I took Pittsburgh, New England, San Diego and Minnesota to win their divisions.

$1000 to win $5000.

My bet wasn’t looking too good a month ago. Feeling much better today.

Looking at this week-end vegas has the Chargers as fav’s at -3 against the eagles??? Maybe they’re looking at how bad philly played last time they went on the west coast against Oakland? I hope they’re right.

How sweet would it be if the skins could pull off the upset at home?

Using DVOA for projections, we should finish 9-7 while Denver finishes 12-4. If instead we use Weighted DVOA, we should finish 10-6 while Denver finishes 13-3.

:)

We also should have lost to New York and Denver should have beaten Pittsburgh.

I understand what you are saying just right now DVOA doesn’t like us at the moment and im more optimistic then that, so ya i may not be looking towards that information to be smart, but i don’t come on here to be wise i come on here to be optimistic that my team will make the playoffs no matter what the stats say.

DVOA doesn’t account for guys coming back from injury, changes to scheme, or increased/decreased playing time for key players. It’s still the best statistical tool we have to work with.

I agree with that it is the best statistical tool we have to work with. I just can be stubborn and rather not be told that we aren’t playing as well as the broncos.

They’ve played better than us every week except the last two. Personally, I’m happy to be trending up while they’re trending down. Hopefully it continues.

They should definitely lose the Indy game and probably lose the Philly game.
