Stat of the Day: High Mileage RBs
Active Rushing Attempts Leaders (2009 Output)
1. Edgerrin James - 3,022 career carries
2. LaDainian Tomlinson - 2,718 career carries
3. Jamal Lewis - 2,481 career carries
4. Fred Taylor - 2,473 career carries
5. Clinton Portis - 2,172 career carries
Kindof weird how similar they all are, isn't it? I have a friend who is a big Redskins fan, and a couple weeks ago I watched a Redskins game with him. Clinton Portis ran for an 8 yard gain early in the game and my friend said "That's like the old Clinton Portis that we've been missing. Some more of that and the team will be back on track!" It sounded so much like some Chargers fans I know, when talking about LT, that it was eerie.

Is it too late to draft Donald Brown?

We should have drafted DHB, he is so damn productive!
Perhaps Crabtree had a point with his stupid holdout

Nobody argued he didn't have a point
He just didn’t deserve more money because Al Davis is dumb.

He should be happy he’s getting paid less money in San Francisco than more money in Oakland.

Seriously.
I would consider paying money not to be a Raider.

Contract #2 is where you really make your money and playing for the 49ers he’ll put up better numbers than he would have as a Raider, so he’ll end up getting more money this way.

Exactly.
I wonder if the Raiders vastly overpay out of sympathy and to compensate for the loss of potential future earnings…

Portis is a good running back. When he’s not running sideways, or fumbling the ball.
In the end, we all lose. Except some people.

Considering the offense he plays on
I think that Portis is still putting up very respectable numbers. I think he still runs hard and has another season or two in him.

In my opinion
the Chargers offense is far better than the Redskins. An argument could be made that our run offense is not, but I think that part of that falls on LT.
I am sure that Charger fans will not agree, or this may strengthen peoples belief that I am not that bright, but at this point in their careers I would rather have Portis on the team than LT.

Old cars run as good as thier engines
Running backs go as good as their O-lines….James/Lewis/Tomlinson have had their lines deteriorate as well
Baltimore has really racked up their yards that Jamal; LT line isn’t the same, Olivea went soft, Goff got old, Hardwick is hurt alot, Dielman just isn’t mauling like he used to and well McNeal just is ok lately
I think we need to worry less on the back as we need to worry about the line
by bo_shilo on Oct 28, 2009 4:02 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
Long runs tend to be more a product of the running back than the line, though. San Diego doesn’t have many long runs either.

I agree, but I haven’t seen any holes in the lines to get out and about. Baltimore is having a the same problem as we do; they simply have a better defense to fall back on. I

Baltimore's running game is fine
I don’t see any problems with the way Baltimore is running the ball. Maybe I misunderstood the post but Baltimore is not having the difficulty running the ball that the Chargers are.

None of the runningbacks mentioned play for Baltimore. Baltimore is the third best running team in football.

It was meant to be a reply
to the bo_shilo post above mine where he stated that “baltimore is having the same problem with the run game as the chargers”.
But being the dumb ass that I am, I did not post it correctly as a reply.
The point of my reply was that, as you stated Baltimore is a great running team, so they are not having the same problems as us running the ball.

I was meaning more last Jamal Lewis last year or two and the year after; Baltimore dropped in its rushing from its Super Bowl run year. The last year or two, they have been ranked very high; a couple of lineman and a passing game has given the backs room.
While I am a bit short on time for research here; I still convinced RB’s do as well as the unit in front of them and the Chargers need another lineman or two that can knock a linebacker back off their feet…If you switched Sproles with AP; Ray Lewis would have still knock him off his feet…..

At least we’re better at running the ball than Houston, Chicago, Arizona andKansas City.

He's shown promise all year
They just don’t run very often.
Houston and Chicago are surprising.

Chicago's OLine
is putrid.
Methinks that Houston has been forced to pass a lot (or they are just in love with the pass right now since their QB is healthy/on fire, their #1 WR is one of the top in the game and their TE is a beast in the passing game, oh and I wouldn’t want to have to chase Steve Slaton down on a pass to the flats).

For the record
I’ve been calling Schaub as a potentially great QB for years now. He just could never stay healthy.

Part of that staying healthy thing
Is having a line that will keep you upright. It took the Texas like 7 years, but I think they finally have one of those. Having a decent defense and a great passing option at TE also help. The Texans are going to be a team giving the Chargers a run for their money for a wild card spot (if the Chargers can’t figure out a way to get back in the divisional hunt) and a lot of that has to do with Schaub playing his tail off.

This may sound odd, but
I think that Schaub is a great athlete; I bet he can golf, play b-ball, tennis, bowl, probably a pitcher in high school, and of course he is a great QB. But I am not sure he has an NFL body, even if he had a better o line he strikes me as the kind of guy that would get hurt. I could be way off base but I am guessing he will get hurt again.
