Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

JaMarcus Russell’s benching in Sunday’s game against the Jets doesn’t mean he’ll lose his starting job. Raiders coach Tom Cable said during his postgame news conference following the 38-0 loss that Russell will remain the starting quarterback for the Raiders.

Russell was pulled from the game midway through the second quarter after completing 6 of 11 passes for 61 yards with two interceptions and a costly fumble on the Raiders’ first play from scrimmage that led to the Jets’ first touchdown.

If the Raiders

would have just kept Garcia and let him start they could have been a fairly competitive team this season. I guess it is just tough for teams to admit that they made a mistake on their high picks.

Saw this coming

The Al Davis press conference last year included a lot of him saying “JaMarcus is a good QB!”, as if to say that the only reason he hasn’t been great is because Kiffin was screwing with him. Al likes the big arm/big body combo and isn’t going to give up on it.

I agree.

I think that’s pretty much what this season is for to the Raiders—to see if Russell can hack it. If he can, then they can build around him. If he can’t, they’ll have to select a new quarterback next year. That’s why Russell is going to keep starting until he can’t start anymore.

We're boned.

the only way i see this guy working out is

Russell throwing it deep with his canon arm, and having heyward-bay run fast as all hell (evidenced by his 40 time – i.e. still moot).

other than that… BIG BUST
