San Diego Chargers Defeat Kansas City Chiefs 37-7

That looked an awful lot like the "easy win" that I predicted.  When push came to shove, the Chargers' offense was just too much for the Chiefs' defense to handle.  When the lead grew too big, Cassel had to try to win the game by himself and it resulted in 3 interceptions (making the lead even bigger).

Great game by the Chargers.  I'm glad to see the same cohesiveness and enthusiasm that I saw against Denver on Monday.  Also, I don't believe anybody was seriously injured during the game for the Bolts.

Give me your thoughts on the game, toast the player that you think had the best game today, and discuss the late games in the comments section below.

Still concerned about the offense in the Red Zone

Although the play calling was probably different than usual with the opponent being the Chiefs.

The red zone playcalling in the 2nd half

had more to do I think with trying to get LT a touchdown than actually scoring. If we’re trying hard to score, I think we throw more.

We're boned.

It’s really not that tough of a schedule. Thankfully.

I agree...

and nothing better to help this than the Raiders in SD. I just hope its the Raiders that show up are the Raiders vs Giants (44-7) or Jets (38-0) rather than the one that could have beaten the chargers week one and beat the Eagles a week ago.

Great win

The secondary and the entire defense played excellent. Best game for the secondary in a while.

Rivers to Jackson is so money right now its kinda hard not to expect them to do this every week.

Unrelated

It’s always surprising hearing that Peyton Manning can talk about football. During his little interview there, I felt like he was going to tell me how he saw his receiver wide open because of the crystal clarity on his Sony Bravia HDTV.

I wish the "blockers" could block.

Our Offensive Line is really a misnomer.

That was enjoyable...

Only issues I had with the game were…
Offensive line play inside the 5-yard line; that’s something for practice this week.
Not closing the deal offensively in the 1st half – the game could have easily been 27 or 31-0 at halftime; a better team than Kansas City would have had some room to mount a comeback.
On defense, still need to work on defending the draw.

Otherwise, that was hands-down the best overall effort of the season, regardless of opponent. The best offense the Chiefs had was on QB scrambles and draw plays. Pass pressure was consistently good today -no surprise the our secondary looked like ballhawks (also, Cassel has the worst touch this side of JaMarcus Russell).
Rivers is a machine when he has a clean pocket.
I liked the throws inside the KC 5-yard line to Chambers and Gates, though neither resulted in a TD. Nice play calls by Norv in those cases.
Good to see Tomlinson hitting the holes hard.

I would say Weddle, he had a real good day today on defense. I’m pretty sure Cassel got tired of him

3/4 empty

Drove up to KC to watch the game. Granted it was raining and the Chiefs were down, but people started leaving at halftime and by the start of the 4th 3/4ths of the seats were empty. Shows how much faith they have in their team to rally a come-back. I enjoyed the game, rain and all! 3 pics and a blocked punt all in 15 minutes!

by JaxOrebetter on Oct 25, 2009 9:11 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That place did empty out didn’t it?

It seemed like the big money seats went empty from the beginning of the game, but the bottom seats were pretty full. Then it started raining. Next thing it seemed the whole place cleared out. Almost like a mass protest or something.

I'm not normally a negative nancy

But this win feels empty. Oh well here’s hoping it’s the start of a streak. That 2nd half red zone offense was worrisome. I’ll give Norv credit for trying the 4th and goal the first time around.

by BoltDaddy on Oct 25, 2009 9:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Tony Gonzalez, where are you?

Really, really hard to watch the Chargers play the Chiefs and not worry about Tony Gonzalez doing whatever he wants in the secondary. Sad (to me) that he didn’t finish his career with the Chiefs (barring a return to retire).

Nothing like searching for fun stuff to read. Here are some of the better things I ran across:

THEY'RE GETTING BETTER . . . WHICH IS ALL WE CAN ASK FOR

Yes the chiefs are terrible, but so are quite a few teams this year in the nfl. A win is a win is a win and given what happened at home last monday, it wasn’t a moment too soon.

if this team finds a way to plug it’s injured holes and merely break even with opponents at the line of scrimmage, their glaring weakness through the first five games, this team can still go 10-6 and contend for the playoffs. denver will probably win more than four more games all year, but they have the ravens and steelers next, the chargers have seen them already and still get cleveland. they still have to play the gigantes, eagles and indy. so do the chargers, but we get the titans on christmas day instead of inside peyton’s dome.

having to make up three games in three weeks is almost unheard of, except for last year. having all of november and december is still doable. who would have thought at this point last year the dolphins would have won their division and they started 0-2.

the win was nice. the way they played is more important. other than LT not able to convert at the goalline, they did everything right.
the division is not lost.

by SoCalCMH on Oct 26, 2009 12:46 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't know about that

I know anything can happen. But, barring major injuries (could happen) I don’t see the broncos choking away the division this year. Orton isn’t going to be confused with john elway, but he doesn’t make killer mistakes. As long as their defense continues to play at the same level all year, the broncos probably win the division. And, after beating KC, I’m not getting all excited that the team has finally put it all together. After all, the saints were down by 21 against the fins and ended up winning. So, the chief were still in it untill the three interceptions/ blocked punt.

by irishlad on Oct 26, 2009 1:05 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Broncos still have to play Ravens & Steelers

If they lose those 2, it’s back in play.
