Injury Report: Chargers @ Steelers
San Diego Chargers
Out
Nick Hardwick, C (ankle)
Antwan Applewhite, OLB (hamstring)
Travis Johnson, DE (groin)
Questionable
Shawne Merriman, OLB (groin)
Probable
Antoine Cason, CB (groin)
Mike Scifres, P (groin)
LaDainian Tomlinson, HB (ankle)
Louis Vasquez, G (knee)
Pittsburgh Steelers
Out
David Johnson, TE (ankle)
Troy Polamalu, S (knee)
Doubtful
Willie Parker, RB (toe)
Probable
Justin Hartwig, C (ankle)
Matt Spaeth, TE (hip)
Keiwan Ratliff, CB (illness)
It's such a shame to see Travis Johnson and Antwan Applewhite not able to get on the field. These are role players that could've made a splash this season, as they were both due to get at least some time on the field, but instead are becoming an afterthought for the team.

making progress
It’s great to see the list getting smaller. This bye week is probably at just the right time. I agree about Applewhite; I think he will make an impact if and when he gets back on the field.
As for the picture of Seau, as a big Washington Capitals fan, I watched the game last night. He was promoting his sports jobs show on Vs. In an interview with Junior at intermission, he was wearing a Caps polo shirt. He said it was for a segment about equipment managers, and doubted his New England fan base would hold it against him. “I’m a Bostonian all the way!” (I believe that is the exact quote).
Yes, he finished his career there, and they gave him a chance at a SB. For me, though, I don’t see a scenario where I ever break out my #55 Seau jersey and wear it with the pride I once did. I almost threw up a little bit when he said it.

Sure we are making progress
But I’m fully expecting this injury list to get much longer after this (soon-to-be-hard-fought) game. Sigh. At least there’s the bye. And then, can the Broncos hit this year? They definitely didn’t do much last year.

Didn't he say he was retiring when we signed him
I don’t really think he’s Bostonian all the way. If so i know a lot of people who still think Junior is ok in San Diego that now probably hate him.

who is we?
He said it. To a National Audience, not to a Boston station.
I don’t understand your second sentence.

I went on two different tangents i think
The first statement (bold) was meant when he was “retiring” the first time before he went to New England. The second sentence is meant that if he truely is a Bostonian all the way then anyone who still holds him dear to the chargers probably hated that statement.

I never really knew him
but it seems to me like he just loved football. And everything else, well he’s finding his way.

it used to be about loving SD
until it wasn’t. I saw his Oceanside HS team kick my alma mater, Carlsbad’s ass in football and basketball, as we were the same gaduating class. I rooted for him at USC, and when the Chargers grabber him with the 5th pick in the NFL draft, I was elated! He was one of the best Chargers defensive players ever. He retired, sorry, he “graduated” in a public ceremony that he richly deserved, from the only team he really had any impact with, the San Diego Chargers (after a brief stint with Miami).
Now, he’s “a Bostonian, all the way”? Well, I’m SD, and if he can throw his time in SD away (Where he Grew Up, I might add) then I have no use for him in my “Beloved Chargers Memory Bank”.

Ohh Nooooo!
ESPN’S blatant Boston bias has wrapped its slimy fingers into Juniors mind!
Formerly, thats a no-go.

My old jersey was a navy-blue Seau...
which I started wearing after I outgrew my child-size LT. After hearing this I’m stashing it in the closet and opting for a classic (AFL-style) Weddle or Naanee.

is there a way
to anti-rec this statement? Couldn’t disagree more. Unless you mean a total sell-out who needs to be hated on at every opportunity then I say “favre doesn’t deserve that” and I still disagree. He was ok as a charger but opened us up to too many big plays by overpursuing like it was going out of style.
yeah, i got opinions.

I’m still for Seau
Lived in San Deigo my whole life. The area has 10 times as many people now as when I was a boy. In my family we had a saying that if you lived in San Deigo more than 4 years we considered you a local. Four years was the typical station cycle for the Navy. The point is in San Deigo we are quick to adopt new people into our community, we have to they are coming either way.
Seau had to leave town to play football. Boston takes him in. He had his greatest team success there. He’s still lobbing for work in Boston. He’s at a hockey game in Boston. What in the heck else do you expect him to say?
In my book Seau can be from two places. Just like most San Diegans are from two places. I have no problem with his comment.

Greatest team success?
A Super Bowl loss with the Chargers, and a Super Bowl loss with the Pats. It all comes out in the wash.

By the way...
Does anybody know what actually happened or how the injuries to Johnson and Applewhite occured?

Dunno about Applewhite
but Johnson is made of glass. Always has been. That’s one of the reasons Houston gave him to use for essentially nothing.

From what I have seen from him (very limited)
That seems to be the case. Seemingly everything injures him for an extended period of time

Applewhite went down in the Oakland game.
Too bad too; he had an excellent preseason.

let's do this
so john you gonna be at MJs sunday? can’t wait.
Here is the way I see the game unfolding, imho. Our o-line should be the key to the game. The steelers d is no joke even without polamalu. But we can’t run…at least right now. They are going to rush 3 and drop back 8 for a lot of the game. They are going to scheme to have it appear that’s not what their doing but that is exactly what’s going to happen. They are going to double team gates and jackson and make malcom floyd beat them. He becomes the key to the game. As number 80 goes, so goes the rest of the game.

Sorry, can't make it
between the late game and some stuff I need to wrap up (we just bought out first house), this week is no good. and Week 6 is a MNF game. Week 7 is looking like my best bet.
