From a Buccaneers Fan
Even though you guys came into Ray Jay and thoroughly trounced us. I am a Buccaneers fan first and foremost, but, in the AFC my favorite teams have always been the Chargers and the Bills.
I watched you guys thoroughly handle the Buccaneers and the Chargers are a dangerous team that could end up going all the way this year. I think the most intriguing match up would be to have Carolina and San Diego in the Super Bowl this year. Not sure how the ratings would be but it would make for one heck of a game. When our season went out with a whimper and we had an at home loss to Oakland of all teams I officially took off my Pewter and Crimson and put on the Blue and Gold.
Phillip Rivers earns my respect because he isnt trying to be the pretty boy QB like Manning or Brady and he isnt out there selling anything they will put his face on. But he is out there ready to fight for each and every one of his team mates. That in my book is a leader and I see him taking that biggest step forward this year.
I wish you guys well and hope to be welcoming you into the fraternity this year of 1st time Super Bowl winning franchises. Tampa Bay won in San Diego... Ironic that this years Super Bowl is in Tampa. Could be an omen of sorts.

Thank you!
Class act, actually giving the Chargers props. Thanks, that doesn’t happen often!

Yeah
For a team that hasn’t won anything yet we sure do arouse a lot of hate across America. No love for the Chargers i guess. Its GREAT to hear people give Rivers props though, instead of buying into that whole “hes such a bad boy” thing.

East Coast
It’s the media. You NEVER hear any good things published about the Chargers. Only guy who likes them is Chris Berman.
Funny, how with 8 teams left in the season, the East Coast teams still get all the props. They still talk about the Cowboys and Patriots when their season is completely over.
I do like us being the underdog though, hopefully shut up the critics when we serve up a big L for the Steelers.

Very Cool
I was dead impressed with Jeff Garcia playing after taking that hit from Jammer.

I agree
Garcia definitely moved up in my book for continuing to play in that game with blood dripping down his face… (question I’ve been wondering ever since though, does the NFL not have a rule about a player continuing to play even while bleeding? I know that as soon as a player starts to bleed in the NBA they stop the game for him to get treated or has to be taken out. just seems like this day in age it would be dangerous to allow players to continue to play while bleeding) regardless, it was impressive.
oh, and PewterPirate55, you forgot Cutler among your list of pretty boy QBs…

Football Players
are always getting cuts and bleeding (usually not as bad as Garcia). I’d think they’d have to take out too many players. The NBA is physical, but not as much as the NFL. And I think NBA players get around quite a bit more than NFL players.

I am not sure a rule is in place
But you have to look at the circumstances. If they stop the game for an injury time out because of blood… If the offense ( The Buccaneers at that point ) had no time outs. There would have been a ten second run off I believe. That is why I don’t believe they have an official rule. The refs don’t wanna penalize someone who can continue playing even though they are bleeding.
Although … If I were on the field … I would want a rule in place where the game is stopped and no time taken off the clock. But the bleeding player must sit out a play just like any other injury time out.
However. The official must be the one to notice it and call it. Players and coaches can not request one. If they do it is a delay of game penalty with a 10 second run off.

I have followed Phillip Rivers since he was in College
I was glad to see him leave NC State lol … I am a Florida State fan and he was so clutch facing him 4 times and he beat us 3 out of 4 times. As a matter of fact FSU’s only loss was to NC State and Phillip Rivers in 2000. Watching the guy back then you just knew he was going to make one hell of a pro QB.
When it comes to clutch QB’s I want him on my sidelines.
Garcia is a good QB but he doesn’t throw down the field enough for my taste. As a Bucs season ticket holder … Antonio Bryants’ stats should be double what they were if Garcia hits him when he is open instead of doing nothing but hitting the check down back all the time.
That being said I am not sure if that is Garcia or Grudens offense here in Tampa. I am ready for Gruden and Allen to go. I am tired of the Bucs being the 2001 Oakland Raiders.
Wait the 2001 Oakland Raiders made the playoffs. Seriously considering dropping my Bucs season tickets and opting into buying Tampa Bay Rays season tickets.
I am not too worried about this weeks game. Roethlisberger will throw at least two picks. I also see Michael Bennent playing a bigger role in the SD offense too. Maybe some two back looks with Bennent and Sproles in the back field would help keep that core of LB’s for the Steelers sucked up to the line and allow Chambers Jackson and Gates to get open.
GO BOLTS!!!
