Steelers Next

Vegas already weighing in at Steelers -6.  With 3 weeks left in the season, I was *this* close to putting $10 on SD at 500:1 to win the Super Bowl.  Would have if I found that at an online site I trusted.  Those odds are now down to 13:1.  Early forecast in Pitt is clear and coldish (~20).  Let's go Bolts!

Cold is bad for our injuries

Steelers don’t scare me though. Another close loss when we weren’t playing as well just like the Colts in the regular season. Go Ravens!

hey remember we didn’t play particularly well either and it wasn’t as close as it appeared.

13-1 penalty ratio, one big one was a holding on 3rd down in the red zone in the end of the game that would have made it 15-10, there was another big one too that cost points btw.

The last touchdown by T.Poly was a touchdown but mysteriously vanished. so it could have easily been 22-10.

Not saying yall played good, just saying those are some big breaks that counter the fact if you ’wasn’t playing good’.

But i mean i think yall are playing just as good as you were when you played us. In that game you didn’t turn the ball over but once. and it was a close game. Not to mention you were losing close games all year. Then when you started winning, you played crap teams, not taking anything away from yall but yall were playing just as good as you are now. You probably should have beaten the colts back in whatever week you played them. It was just as close except this time the colts melted down in the end and committed stupid penalties. So i don’t really see a big improvement you guys have made over the weeks. To arguge with that i don’t see a big improvement we have really made. It will be a battle that hopefully we will win

correction

two forced turnovers

if you didn’t turn the ball over you could argue you win the game, but that’s a big IF especially with the amount of time left after those TOs especially considering you still turned the ball over against INDY.

If you don’t think the Chargers are playing better now than they were when they went to Pittsburgh and lost, you haven’t been paying very close attention.

you guys have been winning, i see that, but not in a bully fashion, a lot of those games are still close….i mean i see the only thing improved may be that you can finish games better.

It’s not just the wins and losses. Rivers, who had a terrible game in Pittsburgh, has been playing out of his mind since. Also, the defense is playing significantly better football.

Almost every QB has had a terrible day this year against pittsburgh, so don’t expect Rivers to turn in an All-pro performance.

Your defense does look a lot better, and more importantly against PIT, seems to be focusing on pressure quite a bit. Our O-line sucks.

by steelguy99 on Jan 5, 2009 7:10 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

if you guys have been playing better, it is not very noticeable. You guys beat teams who you are SUPPOSED to beat. and you were suppose to beat Denver in the second week.

I guess your right you guys ARE playing better, but is that enough? You guys should have beaten the colts and congrats on that.

Phillip had a terrible game in Pittsburgh becuase of the #1 DEFENSE. he had the #1 pass rating going into that game, so its not like he wasn’t playing at his best. he has regained that rank since so it should be obvious that the Steelers D gave him some trouble.

Your D is better…..I guess?? I mean look at the last 5 games you have played.

you gave up how many points? 17 Colts
                                                          21 Broncos
                                                          24 Buccaneers
                                                          21 Chiefs

so that is still alot of points. yeah you won but i can’t see how you give the improved play of Defense credit for all of those wins, looks like your O is just good at scoring which they have been doing ALL season.

I just think as a whole, coaching too, you guys are just finishing games better.

I would argue

along with the vegas line, espn polls, and overall media sentiment that we were “SUPPOSED” to win against the Colts.

If you are trying to argue that we are the same team that played you earlier this year, then well, you’re just flat out wrong. The points we gave up to those teams (excluding the cheifs) came in garbage time so it really isnt a fair indicator of our defenses overall improvement.

But by all means, please keep your train of thought… Denver and Indy fans posted similar things, im sure it isn’t going to make you look as silly as they did.

To be honest, I wouldn’t want to play us right now.

not the same team, but not a drastically improved team tho.

I think the media is overhyping your improvement. They are acting like you guys are a totally different team. I just don’t see that. You guys are better but not drastically better. Your D is slightly better and you are finishing games better. That’s what I am saying.

I think the media is overhyping your team

Just dont’ be surprised when we win.

At 12-4 with the number 2 seed, a team tends to get “hyped”. I expect to get a steady dose of why the chargers will win this week based off their down the stretch performance against awful teams and a great game against the colts. It doesn’t really mean much though, either way.

I won’t be surprised if the chargers win, but I don’t expect it to happen.

by steelguy99 on Jan 6, 2009 7:14 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I seriously doubt

That even 10% of the media will pick the Chargers to win. There wasn’t even a majority of San Diego media that picked the Chargers to beat the Colts.

We already know that the Pittsburgh media is picking Pittsburgh since they are already writing articles about who they are playing in the AFC Championship game.

We’re going to put out a superbowl rap video too.

I think your bandwagon will get fuller after the colts victory, but I’m just guessing here.

by steelguy99 on Jan 6, 2009 12:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

i doubt it too, why would you pick the chargers to win??

I mean they can win as it is the NFL and professionals are playing but it is in Pittsburgh and it is the #1 defense and the steelers did win last time. So they have every reason to pick the steelers, just like if we played the colts, they would have reason to pick the colts over us because they beat us.

by Bleed-Black&Gold on Jan 6, 2009 1:30 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Why would I pick the Chargers?

Well I certainly wouldn’t think they couldn’t because the lost in Pittsburgh by 1 point. If anything that should be a reason in favor of the Chargers. The Chargers aren’t just beating up on crappy teams, they are playing better football in general. I’m going to assume that you didn’t see many Chargers games this season, but the execution and effort put into many of the Chargers losses was pathetic. That part of the Chargers has changed in the last few weeks and I would have said the same had they won or lost any of their last 5 games. The Steelers game, while not being their worst performance, should be in included as one of the games that had some poor execution and effort. So it’s easy to think that a small improvement would help overcome a 1 point difference. Especially if you consider that Polamalu got lucky on his interception and the Steelers have a QB with a brain injury who is obviously in denial about it.

That being said. You’re right that the media should pick the Steelers and I argue that they will pick them. So, I’m not sure what the point of your earlier post about “overhyping” was all about.

the point of my overhyping post was that from where i am, i have been hearing so much crap from chargers fans and other steeler haters. I also have been paying attention to what the media has been saying about this chargers. I was saying that everyone has been ‘overhyping’ the improvement of this chargers team.

In most of their previous losses, they were still battling games out but not being able to finish it so it seems. They were in games and lately they have been winning games. In my opinion, they have always been a good team, a formidable opponent but the media makes them out to be some sub par team, almost like they sucked when i could tell this was not the case at all. Now I am hearing about how great they are and how they are going to go to the superbowl when I am sitting here wondering, Hey this is a good team but its not a completely different team. They have improved but the amount of improvement has been overhyped in my opinion.

500:1 to win the Super Bowl

I put down a few buck over the summer on the Chargers to win it all while in Vegas….7:1.

Gentleman

Congrats on taking down the Mannning MVP and the Colts. Glad you did it so I didn’t have to see the Colts in our house. Anyways. I have to say what I’ve been saying all year long. Darren Sproles, is the absolute man. He will be the main back very very soon. LT is hurt and I don’t see him playing come Sunday. Which brings me to my next point. I invite all of you Charger fans to come on over to Behind the Steel Curtain. We will be having a lot of posts discussing the game. Just be advised that we are not a trash talking blog. We keep it classy and level headed. Not saying that you won’t be. Although last night’s game’s fans were pretty brutal on me for wearing my Steelers jacket. See you on the 11th. may the best team win.

I’ve been over on Behind the Steel Curtain talking to some of the Steeler fans and they are pretty cool so far.

i'm fired up man.

i think its a good matchup. your defense (particularly one crazy samoan) scares me quite a bit, but i like our defense matched up against your O.

I think its going to be another low scoring affair.

oh and lots of tiny Darren zooming around the field like speedy gonzales.

I'm Wondering

If we see a lot more of Bennett this week and if Floyd will play…

I think...

Rivers has to (again) put this team on his back and have a HUGE game. Also, fumbling and INT’s are not an option. If we do that, we’ll have a better than decent chance.

I love the “little guy” but I don’t see him (hope I’m wrong) as being as effective as he has the past couple of weeks.

This game will come down to Rivers and the receiving crew.

doesn;t look like floyd will play (collapsed lung) and LT said today

that he doesn’t have a lot of faith that he will play and might be ruled out before Sunday

San Diego Chargers

It should be a great game. I expect rivers to to have a lot better game against us this time around than he did last time. Will it be enough? I dunno. It was a good win against the Colts last week. I like rivers, he played at NC State – I stay in raleigh, NC. If they beat us I want them to win the SB. But I really hope we can pull this out.
