Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Static from around the Web

A visitor from Hell-A at the Colts game.

More on Tomlinson; it sounds like they could only get a second day draft pick at best.  Pro Football weekly thinks he will be gone.  They would just release him most likely.

A little bit on the Senior Bowl.

The Jets hire Rex Ryan.  From the sound of it Favre is done though; you wonder about them letting Pennington go now.

McGahee looks to be all right; that was an enormous hit.

Anquan Boldin is a doofus.

Spagnuolo is the new coach of the Rams.

Ray Lewis a Cowboy?  That just seems so wrong.  Is Romo a slacker?

Carolina is hot to keep Peppers.  The Chargers would never go after a first tier guy like that.

I'd rather take the possibility of a rebound year from LT

Than a second day draft pick. Can we PLEASE end this LT trade talk soon?

The problem with hoping...

Is that if there is no rebound year for LT, we’ve wasted another year with an incredibly talented team and spent a TON of money on “hope”.

Except

That, I think, at this point he only stays with a contract restructuring. Any new deal obviously wont be “team friendly”, but it shouldn’t be nearly as “team unfriendly” as his current contract situation. Of course, it’s really to AJ and LT’s agent to get something done that’s good for both sides and then LT has to be smart enough to allow the Chargers to keep him fresh with less regular season carries. That’s really the only situation that can work for both sides.

Yup

Somehow I feel like LT isn’t ready to start restructuring deals and admitting that he’s not the greatest RB in football anymore. Although I do hope it happens.

I'd feel better about it

If he didn’t have AJ’s nemesis Tom Condon whispering in his year that he isn’t ready to start restructuring deals and admitting that he’s not the greatest RB in football anymore.

Peppers!

Also, Anquan Boldin is more proof that LT is a class act.

Most RBs are

it’s the WRs that are “Me Me Me”. This is why splitting carries works on most of the teams around the NFL.

Boldin is just following in the footsteps of T.O. and every other WR that believes there’s a coaching conspiracy to limit their touches and lower their value. Drew Rosenhaus puts this thought in their head. Now, he also has plenty of clients that are not WRs, but for some reason the other players know enough about the game to know that going to the same player over and over is bad football. Also, these other players usually understand that coaches are smarter than them.

I’d still call Kassim Osgood a class act, but just like every other WR he thinks he’s talented and for some reason that means he pouts to the media about not getting the ball in his hands. I have no idea where it started (Keyshawn?) or if it will ever end, but for right now the “I’m more important than the team” mentality seems to stick mainly to WRs.

Psychology

I once saw a psychologist talking about the mentality of someone with a job like WR. He basically concluded that the constant questioning of “why doesn’t the ball come to me more?” eats at their psyche. With a RB or a QB or a player who blocks every play or tries to tackle every play, this is not as big of an issue. They get to do their job and know that the harder they work, the more they help their team. The WR basically works hard on play after play and it’s still up to the both QB and to OC to get him the ball. It gets worse when the WR knows he is very good, knows he can make plays that help the team and is working is butt off to do so, but isn’t getting opportunities. Combine that with certain personality types and you get the primadonna syndrome. I’m not making excuses for these jerk-offs, but I understand why it happens with them more than other players.

As for Boldin, I think he’s just a guy who wants the team to win and happens to believe that he can help. This is a similar mentality to other players in the league (Even non-WRs). The difference with Boldin is that some reporters caught some off-the-cuff remarks and the media has run with it. Being a freaking Arizona Cardinal, with little exposure to big media, I don’t think he understood the magnitude to which that stuff can blow up before a Super Bowl game. My two cents are that this thing is blown way out of proportion and you shouldn’t take Mr. Boldin’s comments too seriously or judge him too harshly.

I disagree here. If that were all he were after he would have been happy and celebrating with the team after the victory. That they won and he ran off and sulked because they used other folks speaks volumes; his tantrum was less about wanting the W and more about Anquan in my opinion. As talented as they are I would hate to see him or TO come to the Chargers.

Hmmm

Well then, maybe he just has brain damage from that life threatening hit he took earlier this year.

I think he said he left so that the topic after the game would be the game and not his argument with the OC. I think that was the wrong way to handle that, but if that’s actually why he did it, I’d be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Also...

While I agree that I wouldn’t want to see Owens on the Chargers, I wouldn’t mind having Boldin on the team at all.

1+

Picture all the classy athletes you’ve every watched and picture ANY one of them doing what Boldin right in the middle of the most important drive in the franchise’s history. This punk is just one more example of me-first, team-second selfish player.

I'm not even trying to pile on Boldin

There’s far worse examples of “me-me-me-ism”, we all know.

But I imagine LT’s thought process as this: not just is the ball not being thrown (handed) to you as often, but the offensive plan has pretty much put you in the back seat.

I don’t know what I would have to say in that situation.
