Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Static from around the Web

Cromartie played the season with a hip fracture.

Ron Rivera is interviewing with Detroit, I guess there is no where to go but up for the Lions.

LT is debating surgery for his groin injury.  Please don't pull a Merriman on us; if it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done quickly.

Canepa thinks about Chargers, perhaps post LT.  That just feels wrong.

Tony Dungy goes off to a well earned retirement.

Josh McDaniels leaves the Pats to coach the Broncos.  I dunno, this guy doesn't look like he has even started shaving yet, and most of Belichick's flunkies have flunked out as coaches.  I really expected a defensive wizard.

The Chiefs are looking at Rex Ryan as head coach, the Pats' Pioli is still the leading contender for the GM position.

It looks like Jim Schwartz has the inside track for the Lions job.

The Broncos get Nolan for their defensive coordinator.  This seems odd too; nobody was mistaking the 49ers with Pittsburgh.  What the heck are they doing?

I always like McNabb; why the Eagles benched him and started pushing him to the door I don't know.

I like Nolan

He was handicapped in SF by team mismanagement. He ran some good Ravens defenses before the 49ers hired him. The team convinced itself it was on the brink of contention when really they had just padded their win total with some fluky games all the while playing like one of the worst teams in football. I don’t think Nolan was ready to be a head coach and have to handle head cases like Vernon Davis and manage a QB carousel that happened there. But he’s a good DC and will be able to use what he learned in SF to help McDaniels.

The interesting thing is that he’s a 3-4 guy. Will he want to bring that to Broncos? It took him his entire stay in SF to finally get the personnel in place to where everyone at there position fit the 3-4 mold. Are they willing to endure those growing pains in Denver? As long as Shanahan was there, they never really did rebuilding years. They were either middle of the pact or playoff contenders. Maybe the rebuilding is just on defense and they figure it can’t get any worse while they transition. The McDaniels’ version of the Patriots offense should translate well to the cut blocking OL, fungible RBs, and gunslinging QB that the Broncos already have, so I don’t expect rebuilding there. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on over the next year or so.

It can’t hurt any worse than watching the Chargers maul the current defense for the past two years.

LT no surgery?

How do you fix a torn tendon without surgery? C’mon LT, doctors aren’t THAT bad.

Ha!

Doesn’t he do Pomerado Hospital too? But he’s scared to go there; that’s funny.

He does a commercial for a TV too

Vizio maybe?

It’s the one where he’s playing football in some fake football uniforms.

And then there’s Nike with the Troy Polamalu commercial.

Cromartie

I take back almost everything I said about him this season. Playing that position with a hip fracture is Rivers-esque.

By many a Charger-follower following this announcement.
