Great Game Guys

I hope you guys win the Superbowl this year. Represent the AFC West and show everyone this is not a mediocre division. The Raider fans are on your side. Make us proud.

Thanks Rayder K

I dunno if I’m speaking for the rest of Charger Fans everywhere, but in recent years, the Broncos have been our biggest rival in the league….. Needless to say, this is a good day.

Have fun at the Pro Bowl Jay….. but just remember this: you might not have the same cheap-shot protection from your line there, that you get from your team….. so watch out.

And for what it’s worth, I think Jay Cutler will just end up like some of the other Donkey’s past QB busts….. Jake Plummer, Griese, etc. Except even those losers had more class than Cutler. Give me a break…. making sure to check your sugar on the field where cameras can see you, just to get pity? Ridiculous. I have diabetes, and I’d never use it as a damn excuse like that kid with a bad haircut.

Good luck, Bolts!

I really mean this, guys. I’d like to see the Bolts go all the way and win a SB for their fans and their city. Not a better man in the league than LT, right now. He added new dimension to his HOF creds this year, and you guys are so lucky to have him. I haven’t always like the outcome, but love watching him play and the way he lead the lockerroom this year was just incredible.

I do think you’re stretching it a little saying that Cutler was using his diabetes as an excuse (but you wouldn’t expect me to agree there, wouldja?). And it was our D, not our O and seven RBs on IR, that lost this game for us. Personally, I’ll give both Rivers and Cutler a break. Some of the all time greats had to work through some bouts of immaturity in their youth. You pay for your mistakes and you move on, hopefully. I see amazing skill in both of them, so I refuse to be negative about either of them. Way to early to say it now, of course, but I’m hoping we end up with a strong rivalry based on two eventual HOF contenders delivering HOF performances and carrying themselves like HOF players. Competition based on mutual respect is much more fun to watch than mutual contempt, IMHO. ‘Cept when it comes to the Raiders (just kidding Rayder K!) Nothing wrong with some nice dirty trash talking — you guys have totally earned that right, and I’ll certainly do my part as well. ^^ But I think our division does better when all of our teams are consistently competitive, so here’s hoping we all get there again soon.

Anyway, this has become one of the great rivalries in football today, and it’s good to see San Diego’s fans supporting their team at almost historic highs. I really hope the city can do good by the team and keep them around forever. You guys clearly have the superior team this year, and I’m truly psyched to see you make a run. Best wishes for your first Lombardi, and we’ll see you next year!

Cutler adds to his whiner rep

by throwing his D under the bus… Although it is very much true, a good leader would not say these kinds of things.

http://tinyurl.com/ayjhxh

snip snip- “The San Diego Chargers had just won the AFC West title in resounding fashion, defeating the Broncos, 52-21, to earn the right to host the Indianapolis Colts in a first-round playoff game six days later, and Cutler stopped to answer an unambiguous question: Was it fair to conclude that the team he just played is for real?”

"These guys?" the Pro Bowl quarterback asked, gesturing to the players celebrating behind him. "San Diego? No, I don’t think so. I think Indy’ll handle ‘em pretty good. We really can’t stop anybody, and that’s the bottom line."

Look, Rivers might be a kook

and an easily excitable one at that, but at least he’s not an asshole.

Cutler says things that are hateful and it doesn’t appear that he’s joking. Asshole and that’s the bottom line.

Rivers

Yeah, Cutler always seems serious. Rivers always seems to just be joking around.

The difference between being competitive and just being a prick.

That guy is such a d-bag. I don’t know how you can root for a guy like that even if he’s on your team.

The only problem with that

As time shows both players’ true colors. Phil is just a fun loving guy that likes to talk A LOT and won’t back down with the other QB or opposing fans start talking trash. Jay trashes his teammates, whines, pouts, and has the maturity of a 10 year old.

would rather have Rivers on their team than Cry Baby Jay.

Not defending idiocy

How can we root for him?

Look, I’m not going to try to defend Cutler to you guys since (a) you clearly don’t like him for perfectly valid reasons and (b) he’s clearly not helping himself by acting so serious and harboring resentments that experienced pros should just shrug off. I am NOT condoning his attitude and I don’t blame you for thinking ill of him. But he’s young and I do believe he is trying his best in a bad situation. If the Broncos owned the Bolts for as long and as humiliatingly as the Bolts have owned the Broncos in recent years, you might be forgiven for a little misplaced resentment. Wouldn’t make you a prick or an egomaniac.

Elway was a bit of a prima donna early on, as well. And sure Cut has some talent, but I’m sure I don’t need to remind you guys that there’s a difference between a leader and a Leaf. Cut fights hard for his team and rightly or wrongly speaks his mind. This was his second full year as a starter, and he has a long way to go. But we’re proud of play and his leadership so we don’t mind the outspokenness.

And until he does grow up a little, I’m sure you guys are secure enough in your fandom to handle a little drama from an opposing QB. From my perspective, I’m certainly cutting Rivers some slack in that area. (A QB who taunts another QB from the sidelines during a rout? You must admit, that’s a little bizarre.) But it’s all good. The game is over. Now go get LT a Superbowl — he deserves it! ; )

Actually, you are

He’s young and trying his best in a bad situation? That sounds like an excuse.

The Bolts haved owned the Broncos his entire pro career? Another.

It makes you a prick and an egomaniac when you are quoted like this:

“These guys?” the Pro Bowl quarterback asked, gesturing to the players celebrating behind him. “San Diego? No, I don’t think so. I think Indy’ll handle ‘em pretty good. We really can’t stop anybody, and that’s the bottom line.”

Someone remind him the Colts won in the closing seconds and the verb “handle” can only be used in situations where it’s 24-6 at the half.

He fights hard for his team? Or does he throw them under the bus (as quoted above)

And you’re proud of his play and his leadership? Your leader is pouting on the sideline with watering eyes. You’re proud?

And until he does grow up a little

There, you said it, he’s immature, don’t you feel better? We are all secure in our fandom here, because we knew Cu*tler what he was the whole time.

I don’t blame you for defending him, you’re a fan, it’s what you do. But you are defending his idiocy.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

I believe Rivers started taunting Cutler

after Cutler shot him the finger from reports from some of the players….

by LT on Dec 29, 2008 4:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

There are differing accounts on both sides

Bottom line, Cutler needs to get over it and stop taking the bait. Rivers clearly seems to be over it.

I love ya Jay, I really do, but repeat after me: “No comment.” Actions speak much louder. I’m confident he’ll learn, but he’s definitely learning the hard way.

See you next year, guys.

It’s hard to let your actions speak for you when your actions consist of going out and losing.

Like our D, I'm defending nothing.

When it comes to idiocy, I don’t approve of it any more than you do. You’re unhappy because it’s your team he’s disrespecting. I’m unhappy because he represents our team and needs to learn a little sportsmanship even when he thinks he’s not getting it in return.

And I’m really not asking you to like Cutler or give him a break. I’m not completely delusional. The question was asked how Bronco fans “can root for a guy like that” and I was simply explaining why we do. Nutshell — we have faith in our QB. We expect to win a lot of games with him. We also expect him to grow up a bit and get over it. But to be blunt, we don’t exactly have a Ryan Leaf behind center.

He called out our defense because they deserve it. If they’d manage to beat the Raiders, the Chiefs, or Buffalo, LT would have lost his shot this year. You won’t find anyone in our locker room who would argue otherwise. Should he have said it to the media? Probably not. But after six or seven years of this, it needed to be said. We fans have been saying it for some time.

Maybe I’m trying to make too fine of a point here in a spirit of intradivisional goodwill. Whatever. Feel free to hate him as much as you want to and let’s keep this rivalry hot!

Anyway, good luck in the playoffs. It would be a wonderful story if you won big. If not… see ya next year!

At this point

I’m not sure if I hate Cutler, or I just feel sorry for him. It’s a hard life when you’re a dick all the time.
