Death Match Against The donkeys
With the game next week being a battle to the death of the season, I remembered a couple comments from the kind people over at MHR. They are an excitable bunch, really trying to become a relevant football team in the eyes of the Chargers. I believe they accomplished that this year. But, as happens sometime when people get excitable, they got a little too enthusiastic.
Here I present to you just a little reminder about what the donkey fan's were saying last week at MHR. To repeat, this is what they said on December 14, 2008 and we have our game against them on December 28, 2008.
Anyone know where I can get my AFC West Champions hat?
i would like to announceDENVER BRONCOS YOUR 2008 AFC WEST CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!
That one above was from Mr Troll him/herself robbo650. Did they get that leash for you yet? Nothing personal, I can assure you. I am refering to the Troll Leash(TM).
which brings me to some gentleman's tag...
MHR is great, but celebrating a 2008 AFC West Championship on MHR is amazing.
and just for fun, here is Mr. Leash him/herself one more time. robbo650 with my personal favorite:
OFFIACL THE BRONCOS ARE YOUR 2008 AFC WEST CAHMPS!!!!!!
Being a San Diego sports fan you never get ahead of yourself. Right around the corner is always a let down. Maybe, just maybe, it would be our fault. Maybe we would get too excited and our team would lose to teach us a lesson.
This year was something different. As many talking heads names us likely super bowl contenders, many Charger fans left that talk alone. We know what happens when you get ahead of youself and start getting pompous about something you haven't even done yet; Karma will come and bite you in the butt.
Karma, my friends, is what has visited the donkeys this season. Well, that and no running game. At the minimum, we have for ourselves one heck of a game next week. And we have all week to get excited.
Bring.
It.
On.

I got really heated
in a few exchanges with those guys. I guess there’s just something about gloating after an undeserved win that really bothers me.
An interesting thing to think about is how badly the losing team will take the loss. If its Denver, they basically gave away a playoff spot, and proved to everybody they didn’t deserve it in the first place. If SD loses, it means we really do have to face the fact that there is a contender to worry about within our division and that we may not be as good as we thought we were. Mostly, it means that we have to shut up about the ed hochuli call.
Its going to be a long LONG offseason for the losers and their fans.
We're gonna dazzle you with our super play.

I don't understand how this erases Hochuli
It still happened. If it didn’t, we would have already clinched the division and the game next sunday wouldn’t have mattered. Now we have to overcome the Hochuli. When we win, then we will have erased Houchuli.

If the defense can play a decent game
the Bolts should win this one going away. I gotta believe Philip is salavating over this game. Should be fun to watch. I hope Cu*tler chokes like the choker he is. Go Bolts!
PS…. Who really cares about just winning the division anyway? That isn’t anything to celebrate (unless you haven’t won one in a while I guess…) The super bowl should always be the goal…

Also noticed over at MHR
the Donkey fans justifying the Donkey’s losing the last 2 games because at best they were a 9-7 team when the season started. The excuses are already lined up for them. However, blowing a 3 game lead with 3 games to play is unprecedented, and I doubt they can live that one down.
Should be a shootout on Sunday night. Going to be fun and crazy at the Q that night.

And the excuses start flying.
It’s weird. I don’t hear nearly as many excuses from Charger fans even though the Bolts have massively under-achieved this season. Bolts just need to take care of business this week and all will be right in the universe again.

Oh you mean the last time we had consecutive losing seasons?
We’ve come a long way since having the third or fourth best winning percentage of the past 35 years. Along with six Super Bowl appearances, two of them wins. 13 division crowns. And as many winning seasons as the Chargers have had losing seasons during the same span.
This will be the last year the Chargers will challenge for the AFC West crown. 2009 might be close too, but after that it will be all Broncos. Win or Lose we support our team. I am from San Diego, so I know how loyal the fans are when the team starts to lose. :)
In spite of my jeering, I believe that the team that wins on Sunday will have EARNED the AFC West crown. In a small way, justice has been served for the Ed Hochuli call. The Chargers deserved a second chance and they have it. Win or Lose, the Ed Hochuli complaints should die. The Broncos have handed you guys a second chance on a silver platter and if your team can’t take advantage of it then they don’t deserve to go win this division. Simple as that.
See you Sunday; may your offensive turnovers be plentiful and luck be nonexistent. :)

How has justice been served
for the Hochuli call? If that dude makes the CORRECT call in game 2, the Bolts win, and would now possess a 8-7 record (5-0 v. AFC west), while the Donkeys would be 7-8 (2-3 v. AFC west). This game would be meaningless, as the Bolts would have already clinched the playoff spot. So, I totally disagree that justice has been served. It has NOT.
I appreciate your passion for you team Zappa. I just don’t think the Broncos have a chance on Sunday. That’s all. They had 2 chances prior to this week and blew them.

You are assuming that the rest of the season progresses exactly the same when
the law of cause and effect would change EVERYTHING. No one knows for sure how that win or that loss would affect either team. I may even admit that if the Broncos lose that game we only win 4 games this year. That win ignited us to a fast start, then we faded, then we got hot, then we faded. There is no telling how your team would have responded to that win either. Hell, maybe the Broncos rally late to make this game matter anyways. No one knows. I don’t expect any Charger fan to give the Broncos any chance this Sunday and I don’t expect any MSM people to give them a chance either. I like the Broncos chances when their backs are against the wall. The problem is, the Chargers play well with their backs against the wall too. It should be one hell of a game. My only fear is that without a running game my team could get blown out….it’s hard having 8-9 running backs on IR. It will be one hell of a heroic victory if the Broncos pull this one out. This game negates the Hochuli call though. Both teams can now earn their division crown. Nothing else before this game matters. One team will win…one team will lose. Me? I hope for a tie! lol :P

I assumed everything would play out as it has. Who knows what would have happened. That’s part of the fun I suppose.
I am really excited for this game. It IS a playoff game. Winner take all. The stadium will be rocking and I can’t wait.
Ultimately though, I think the running back situation is a huge factor going against the Broncos. We will see.

You’re right about their running back situation. he biggest difference between the first meeting and this week’s is that the Chargers have gotten healthier and the Broncos have gone the other way.

Yeh, I got it
It’s a fantasy of teams that lose to the Broncos that they chop block. (A cut block is a block below the waist, and is legal. A chop block is the same thing when the opposing player is already engaged with someone).
I’ll make you a deal – watch Sunday night’s game and record it. If you spot a single chop block by a Denver lineman, let me know the play, and if I agree, I’ll admit the Broncos chop block. If you can’t spot any chop blocks, you admit the Broncos don’t.

Well, I guess...
…you got me. That’s why the Broncos win games, I guess. I don’t recall the play exactly, but I remember one where a Bronco sort of fell onto a defensive player who was engaged . Kind of a cheesy call, but we don’t whine about the occasional bad call. At any rate, if that’s all you’ve got to show for the claim that the Broncos chop block, you need to get a life.

Wonko: No you don’t. And I’ll say this in fun, since DaBolts took my gag off, and not to get started again (2008 is history for us Bronco fans) but the bet I proposed was
“If you spot a single chop block by a Denver lineman, let me know the play, and if I agree, I’ll admit the Broncos chop block. If you can’t spot any chop blocks, you admit the Broncos don’t.”
The chop block was called on Tatum Bell, the running block, so you lose and have to admit the Broncos don’t chop block.

Yeah, and the French had a fine military record through Napoleon; the smart money was on the Germans after that.
This will be the last year the Chargers will challenge for the AFC West crown. 2009 might be close too, but after that it will be all Broncos.

Ya bandwagoneer; just abandoned the Chargers for a team with a fancy W-L eh? :-)
Both teams have let any number of opportunities go by the boards; we’re both fortunate to be competing for the playoffs. The real problem with the Hochuli complaint is that everyone acts as if that had been called correctly, somehow the rest of the season would have unfolded in exactly the same way. We know from fractals that the rest of the season wouldn’t have been remotely the same and nobody knows how we would stand right now; that won’t keep it from haunting us like the holy roller however.
