The offense was very strong this week, especially on first down. 15 of 16 passing on first downs is just ridiculous. The only weakness they showed was the one turnover and their performance in the Red Zone. They were successful on 65% of plays outside of the red zone, but only 33% inside a number that is primarily thanks to having only one successful rushing attempt on five tries. Hester, Chambers, Jackson, Floyd, Gates and Manumaleuna all had excellent games receiving. Tomlinson was successful on 53% of his runs outside the red zone.
The defense was better than they have been for most of the season and against a good offensive team. They were downright dominant on first and second down, but were poor on third down (largely thanks to a couple of blown calls, but they count the same as correct calls). There was a bit of a let down in the second quarter and they just couldn't seem to cover Gonzalez, but otherwise this was a very strong effort.
On a per play basis, the Chargers out played the Colts and the difference in the game really was the early whistle and the phantom pass interference call. It's a tough way to lose, but if we can see this kind of performance week in and week out the rest of the season we should definitely see more wins than losses.
