The Broncos sign Bell
The Broncos are a team with a lot of baggage; and they found just the right running back to help them with that. Tatum Bell's best move this season was absconding with Rudi Johnson's bag after being let go by Atlanta. Initially Bell denied it, apparently he didn't know the locker room had security tapes. He continues to insist it was just a misunderstanding.
The Broncos conducting an open tryout for running back
The Broncos selected Bell with their second round draft pick in 2004. He had reasonable numbers his rookie year with about 400 yards and 5.3 yards per carry. His second year he and Mike Anderson teamed up well and he produced close to 1,000 yards, still averaging over 5 per carry. In 2005 he had three fumbles, but only lost one. In 2006 however he made a whopping five fumbles in 233 carries. The Raiders named their fumble recovery practice the 'Tatum Bell Drill'; invariably a bad sign.
Despite fair numbers, that was likely the end of the line as the Broncos traded him and offensive lineman G. Foster off to Detroit for CB Dre' Bly. Bell has continued to be frustrated in his quest for more touches, in 2007 he ran for only 182 yards as Kevin Jones recovered earlier than expected. He was rumored to have asked Detroit for a trade, but he denied that saying he just expressed his frustration at K. Jones early recovery. Despite that, Bell did sign another one year contract with the Lions this year, but reports were that he showed up to camp out of shape; that was when the luggage incident came about an the Lions dropped Bell for Johnson. Bell has been a good back, and as desperate as the Broncos are at RB this may end up being a good pickup as long as he doesn't become a distraction. It does make me appreciate LTs sure hands and sterling character.

Baggage Handlers
Mr Bell has been watching too much Scarface:
You got to be kiddin’, five hundred?
Who you think we are, baggage handlers?
The goin’ rate on a boat, is a thousand a night, man
You know that (first you got to work your way up to 500, cedigo)
Ok, what I did for you guys in Freedomtown, what was that?
apparently, Freedomtown is Detriot. Sounds about right.
Bring back Balboa Stadium.

Very, very funny, DaBolts.
Maybe he could steal some of Marshall’s baggage… Anyway, I think Shanahan will have him on a very short leash, and I wouldn’t expect him to contribute much.
We miss you on MHR. Do you still listen to the radio shows?
It was once said that a million monkeys typing at a million computers could reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the internet, we know that is not true.

It did strike my funny bone
Atlanta looks to be tough at home; Bell better contribute a bit. I still peak over at MHR, but this takes more time than I expected. I listened a bit this week and was shocked, SHOCKED to find that Guru isn’t a fan of AJ or all things Chargers. :-)

The Chargers aren't worthy of you, DB!
I mean that, seriously, and let me just say that I hate the Tatum Bell signing, no matter what he does foe Denver…..

Well
let me just say the Broncos are not worthy of you either. As a Charger fan; I take it as a left handed compliment when fans of other teams take the time and energy to hate the Bolts. We used to be little more than a minor obstacle on the way to the playoffs; it’s a measure of how far the team the team has come since the dark days of Ryan Leaf.

I don't hate the Chargers,
Never have. In fact, though I’m first, foremost and forever a Broncos fan, I still like the Bolts and like to see them do well. I think I’ve made that clear over time.
I really wish the Chargers had taken a couple of Super Bowls during the last couple of years while the Broncos were down. They certainly had the talent. But I have questioned their “stand pat” philosophy over the last couple of years. Certainly, I wouldn’t want to tinker too much with a winning formula, but if you don’t take a step forward then you’re taking a step back.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!

Oh yes
I didn’t mean to suggest all Denver fans share that sentiment. I would have argued some with you at the beginning of the year about the step back, but I have to say that there are more chinks in the armor than I expected. No matter how the season winds up, how AJ handles the off season should be very interesting.

DaBolts, that was super funny, and a great photo
It is amazing that SBN volunteer bloggers post better articles than the professional media that get paid to write.
In spite of Bell’s screw ups, I hope that he can learn from his TO-like experiences.
The future looks so bright that we're going to need blue and orange sunglasses!

Thanks Arctic
Reinventing oneself and second chances are great American stories. Bell is saying all the right things; it would be nice to see him seize this opportunity and put his career back together.
